For any of you who haven't seen the movie "Yesterday", the premise is that there's some sort of electrical event on Earth that wipes out all but one person's memory of The Beatles. The only person who remembers them is an aspiring young museum who uses his memory of their songs to become a huge recording star.  If you are a Beatles fan, the movie is definitely worth watching though it's kind of corny.

There's a heck of an Oasis-related joke in the movie:

After wondering why nobody remembers The Beatles, he goes to Google and searches for them, but the only responses he receives are for pages relating to beetles (the bug). He then search on "Oasis", which returns hits on a lush area in a desert, to which he says to himself "of course"

The video released today does have some serious Beatle-esque vibes.

Saw that a while back.  Good movie.

in contrast to Linkedin Park, which is a potential name for 1500 S. Capitol if the Lerners could get them interested

i watched the show they streamed yesterday. The new lead singer is about as good of a replacement for Chester Bennington that they could have found, however there are allegations that she's involved with scientology and that she was a supporter of Danny Masterson. She'll need to address those.

here's a clip of In The End:

Does that make her any crazier than half the people running around these days?

for some reason, the concerts are offered to SPH through an MLB account that has the wrong email for me, so I never see the concert offers anymore. :( I thought I corrected it a couple years ago, but I think it reverted to the nonsense address.

Damn...I'm gonna miss a 20 minute rendition of 41 shots, and 3 hours of some other equally crappy songs.  :hysterical:

We were at the Springsteen concert last Saturday and one of the songs early in the set was "Lonesome Day."

That prompted me, this morning, to throw on The Rising, to which I'm listening right now as I work. I haven't listened to it in quite a few years—I tend to opt more for live recordings—but on September 11 this seems like a very appropriate album. The production could be a little better. The sound is a bit "bright." (Although this is the first time I've played this album on the Wharfedale speakers in my home office. It sounds better on these speakers than I remember it sounding before.) But it's nice to rediscover this album in its original context.

that’s probably my favorite Springsteen album. The rising is my favorite song of his despite how difficult it is to hear. Mary’s Place and Further Up the Road are incredible songs as well. Waitin on a sunny day is great as well

"The Rising" is the first song Ms1995hoo ever heard Springsteen perform live when we saw him at MCI Center on August 10, 2002, about two weeks after the album was released. She didn't like Springsteen then and went to the show mainly to humor me, but seeing him live changed her opinion. One thing she still says is how she couldn't get over the crowd's reaction when "this ordinary-looking guy in a lumberjack shirt" came out on stage. I clearly remember that performance of "The Rising" as one of the more cathartic moments at any concert I've attended. I've heard the song played live 14 times (that show plus every Springsteen show I've attended since), but that particular performance still stands out in my mind.

I've always been a pretty casual Springsteen fan, but after taking in Saturday's show from a balcony across the street, I've gained a much bigger appreciation for their music. They sounded absolutely fantastic and I'll be sure to buy a ticket next time they come around—from the sound of it, they don't seem to be anywhere close to retirement.

I love The Rising album. Nothing Man is incredibly haunting. There's a line in it about how years later, after the protagonists passing, folks would gather at the local bar and "The sky still, that unbelievable blue." As Ali points out in the 23 years ago thread, look outside.

I also went to a Springsteen concert around late 2022 and remember "Worlds Apart" as being the song I took a bath room break along with others. It took maybe a broader and more tolerant world view for him to include that song on the album than maybe I had at the time (or maybe it was just the song I felt was the best to miss as I needed the p... break). Over time, I've grown to love it as a song. Great instrumentals, and I appreciate the intent (but I still refer to it as the Piss Break song).

he has said recently he has no plans to retire. But Sunday his wife disclosed that she is suffering from Multiple Myeloma, which is why she's not touring with him and is only making sporadic appearances. That could pull him off the road at some point. He'll be 75 in about 2 weeks.

Heh. I hit the head during that song this morning. Yeah, I could have paused it, but why bother? I have it up loud enough that I could hear it (mainly to drown out power tools outside), and since my wife isn't home I saw no need to close the bathroom door.

I look at him and at Jagger and think performing live keeps them fit with the energy they put out.

I saw Bruce and the E street band in 1978 and 1980 and I don’t regret not seeing again although certainly some great material after that. He’s a big part of my later teens and early twenties and don’t need reminders that I’m getting old!  I actually regret not seeing him in the early 1970s before he hit it big. People told me those concerts were just fantastic.

My first Springsteen concert was at the old Boston Garden but not until the E Street Band was on hiatus. It was the Lucky Town / ??? tour. I think he may have had Roy Bittan with him and that's it. I've only seen him with the E Street Band twice - once with Clarence at the new Garden in 2002 (The Rising), and only once at Nats Park :(

Saw James Taylor at Wolf Trap last night. I'm not a huge fan but the Mrs. is. A few observations:
- For a guy who is 76, he looks and sounds great. His voice is strong and he spent a few songs jumping around.
- He's very funny. He told some of the same jokes as when we saw him last year (even noting that he's told them already)
- The band was solid, same band as last year featuring "Blue" Lou Marini on sax and flute (he of Blues Brothers, SNL, and Blood, Sweat and Tears fame). His backup singers are especially fantastic.
- We were inside the seated area, a ton of people left toward the end of the second set before the encore. When Taylor came back for the encore, i'd guess 20% of the crowd in the upper sections had left. I don't get why people would be in such a hurry to leave after paying so much for tickets
- Wolf Trap is a wonderful place to see a show (maybe not if you are high up on the lawn and can only watch monitors, but definitely if you are inside the pavilion itself
- The show opens with a video montage of him through the years playing "Something in the way she moves" before he joins in live to finish the song. This is the same way he opened last year. After the song he tells the story of performing it for George Harrison and Paul McCartney in 1968 and being awarded an Apple Music recording contract as a result. Harrison went home that night and wrote his own version of the song (completely different song) and the rest is history.

He has two more shows this weekend before moving on.
