The Reds signed a 19 year old international FA named Ichiro Cano Hernandez. How the Mariners didn't sign him first is beyond me. He played for Mexico in the WBC.
:lmao: Guy has Mariner written all over him.   I  guess they really hated the Cano signing.

Spring Training is starting this week and Matt Chapman, Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery and J.D. Martinez are all still unsigned. They all have Scott Boras as an agent. Is he asking too much or are the owners trying to get tough with him. I suspect he's asking for too much and will settle for contracts that desperate teams will eventually pay more than they originally hoped.

Chapman is certainly looking at a pillow deal. Bellinger might be as well because his peripherals were not great and are causing most front offices to pass on him. Snell and Montgomery are probably still going to get multi year deals, but are likely asking too much. As with pitching though, Boras is liking waiting out the market for an injury.

nice signing for both. He's a good bat, and he ended up with more for this year than the option he turned down. Any deferrals or is this real deal $14 million per year?

That was a joke that the Nats were in on him.  Probably planted by his agent.

Eh, I imagine that Rizzo is checking in on everyone right now, just to see who might be interested in a one year deal.

well, I will guess that the Nats had something like a 3 year, $36 million offer out there for him and hoped the market would come back to that level. Giants might have had 2 years, $30 million, then added an extra year at a lower AAV to get him.

Waiting for the market to come back to him. He's probably in on Montgomery for 5 years, $75 million. :lmao:

I'm sure he has a one-year $12 million deal on the table, with options, for Bellinger.

I was kinda hoping for a one year deal on Bellinger. Lefty friendly park and a virtual guarantee to negate a QO due to trade at the deadline.

No. He’s already spent his budget.

FWIW, ESPN gave the Soler deal a C minus.  Doesn’t give them lineup flexibility.  He’s injured a lot. And his power doesn’t fit the ballpark.  Also they’re not a real contender.

Boras does this all the time.  He also used to do it with draft picks before the rules changed.  It's an attempt to make owners and GM sweat, while in the case of late FA signings, let the supply come down thereby pushing up prices.  If you want to get his guys earlier, you often need to have a market "reset" kind of deal like Cory Seeger or A-Rod.

Both of them are coming off of pillow contracts though. Not sure they'd want to sign another.

Chapman might not ever get that big payday honestly. Lousy showing on a pillow deal doesn't play well for future investments.
Bellinger had fairly good numbers, but his peripherals scream that he was INCREDIBLY lucky. No FO these days (not even the White Sox or Rockies!) would give him the number of years he is asking. His year looked like an anomaly, and no one would commit to 7+ years of that.

Dom Smith to the Cubs.

Apparently he had hamate bone surgery in January (so like, when did it break?)

Well they don’t have to worry about his power disappearing.

The low budget ones have, including Nick Senzel and Joey Gallo.
