There’s the whole building up their farm system with high draft picks for years on one side and building up through free agency while making savvy deadline trades hitting on the likes of Adolis García on the other, but why not.

Yep, two different methods to get to winning ways. The Nats are building through the minors but there will be a time when they'll need to sign some free agents. If successful it will be more of a combo meal.

Another roll of the dice on a formerly well-regarded prospect pitcher who pitched his way out of stateside ball and out of the KBO.

6+ ERA in the KBO

The latest version of letting the pitching market come to him?

good winter league season in the dominican, but I think Fernando Rodney had a good season there, too.

0.3% odds of playoffs. 65-97 when the total schedule is simulated. Second toughest division in baseball. 98 wins projected for Barves, 86 for Phillies, and 81 for each of the Fish and the Mets.

how do you pronounce his last name? Gellman? Sellman? Guezelle-man? Giselle-man? Jizzle-man?

edit - Zell-man

Mets announcers always called him "Guh-sell-man".

They were thinking that Rick Ferrell and Wes Ferrell had come back to life as a thirty-year old catcher-pitcher duo nor the Nats. Just like 1038.

Can't say I blame them.  Not like there's a lot of questions with this team, or how it will do.  I'm sure it'll pick up a couple days after the Super Bowl ends but besides the kids who'll be NRIs, not a lot of storylines to work with.

I think that story praised a couple of Rizzo deals - Hand for Adams, Lester for Thomas. Strengthened the right side. Expressed disappointment in Gore, too.

Hand, Lester...I had almost buried my memory of Brad Hand blowing a save and losing a game to the Mets. Same game when Robles cracked a double and decided to steam on to third...where he was out.

This says we've been connected to Soler?

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/02/jorge-soler-rumors-three-year-deal-two-year-offers-giants.html

They note that he's looking for a three year deal but teams won't go past two. He's a right handed DH, so on the odd chance that the Nats would sign him, that puts Gallo in LF and Meneses 100% at 1B, leaving Garrett as a bench player.

Gallo plays 1st, but this does seem to crimp playing time among Meneses and Garrett.

If the wanted to go with a better hitting line up, then Gallo or more likely Thomas could play CF with Garrett and most likely Gallo in the corners.  Compromises defense a bit, but Young could get PT as a defensive sub. A Soler signing could end up cutting Robles's chances more than Garrett.

Nats sign Jesse Winker to a minor league deal with a ST invite. LHB / LF who was an all-star in 2021. Probably ends up at Rochester as the new Matt Adams.
