DJ Herz got the start and went the first two innings, throwing 26 pitches with 16 going for strikes! He did not allow run and gave up a hit and a walk and strck out three.

Trey Lipscomb moved over to third base and had one putout and one assist. At the plate, went 0-for-4 to drop further down the Interstate (.183).

Robert Hassell shifted to left field and had two putouts. He singled twice in three at-bats, drew a walk, and stole his fifth base. His fall line is now .293/.362/.310 with eight walks, one double, and 12 RBI.

They are having a vote for the final two but nowhere can I find those already selected.

Looks like Thad Ward starting tonight.

Ward looks good so far.  Three Ks in two innings. A single and a walk given up. No runs.

Pineda is the only Nat in the lineup.  He just singled in his first at bat.

Quick 1-2-3 third inning for Ward. Aided by a nice play by the 2B.

Is Ward projected as a starter or reliever? I believe he only received this year in MLB.

Four very good innings by Ward. Then three runs in the fifth.  All unearned but he did give up a home run.

Pineda 2-3 so far and just threw out a runner at second. Imagine a catcher throwing out a runner.

Pineda singles in the tieing run. Now 3-4.

Oliver Dunn looks like a good hitter for the Phillies system. OPS over 1.100 so far in the Fall League.

Scottsdale seems a good bet to make the semifinals.  Four of the six teams so. They are currently in second place with a 13-12 record. The semis are next Friday.

FG projects him as a "low-leverage long reliever" with potential for a little more than that, even starting. Walks are his big issue, and his meh sinker suggests he'll need to pitch backwards to succeed.

Fall Stars game rosters announced:

Only Herz from the Nationals makes the cut.

Ribalta should have made the cut, threw another 1.1 innings of scoreless ball tonight, ERA down to 2.35.

That’s fine. He can rest.

DJ Herz (WSH No. 16) faced five batters in the second inning, allowing just one hit in his scoreless frame.

Scottsdale will play tonight at 8:30 in the play in semifinal.  Streaming online or on MLB TV. If they win tonight they advance to the final Saturday night.

so, just a quick check in on stats.

Hassell's .290 / .366 / .348 line, with 21 Ks in about 80 PAs (annoying they show ABs and not PAs on the MLB stat page), I guess shows on base skills but not power or consistent contact.

Pineda's .237 / .303 / .373 is not good, but I think he's recovered some from a worse start.

Lipscomb's just had an awful offensive year. Maybe he's worn down.

Ward and Herz have good lines. In 17 IP, Ward has 6 BBs and 20 Ks, 2.12 ERA, and an 0.88  WHIP.  Just one dinger.  Herz has pitched 17 innings as well, and is more TTO - 9 BB, 25 Ks, 2 HR - with a 3.71 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. 25 Ks for 51 outs is :) , but BBs have to come down.

Powell is a bona fide disappointment - 9 IP. 12.00 ERA, 2.22 WHIP, 8 BB, 9 K, 2 HR. Ribalta is nothing special, though he's 4-1 with a 4.15 ERA. WHIP is 1.38, BBs and Ks are 6 in 8.2 IP. Neither of those guys are 40 man roster candidates.

Quite the game last night as the Scorpions blow a 9-0 1st inning lead and lose 12-9. Thus ends their AFL season.

Pineda: 2-5, R, RBI, 2Ks
Hassell: 1-4, R, BB, K
Lipscomb: 2-4, R, RBI, BB, K, E

No Nats pitches took part in the debacle.
