UCLA, USC, Stanford, and Cal should join the ACC given how meaningless conference names are
You tell’em Pops
Walter Camp to you.Somehow, a big 10 with 18 teams is only slightly less weird than a Atlantic Coast Conference with the best traditional hoops programs on the West coast
UCLA and Southern Cal joined the Big Ten. As to the other two, I wonder how Cal would react to being in a conference with a Jesuit school (Boston College). Not that they can afford to be picky these days!
who has not joined another conference? Stanford, Cal, and who else?
I believe Washington State and Oregon State.
Correct. I think it’s generally expected those two may land in the Mountain West. Stanford and Cal, who knows.
Ivy League. After all, we have a couple of state schools already in Cornell and UPenn.I've got a great idea! since the B1G has 18 teams, take in Cal and Stanford too, then set up 2 divisions - old Big 10 and new Big 10.
they are better as a pair for a new conference. Saves travel money, gets decent exposure in a good market. I don't think Cal by itself is a very strong add anywhere. It does have a good academic profile.
I think Stanford may end up as an independent. No clue what to do with Cal.
I heard this Mike Huegenin (so?) on Orlando talk radio opining about the latest moves. He is a college football writer. He was unsure where Stanford and Cal would land. He said Stanford used to have cache but their current leadership has fallen behind. They don’t use NIL much. And they have their first football transfer portal player this season. Just one. So yea they don’t sound attractive to the major conferences. He also said Oregon State and Wash State would end up in the Mountain West. On the subject of Florida State he said they had no where to go now. He said the next big issue will be the haves in the SEC and Big Ten raising a ruckus about sharing revenue equally with the have nots in their conferences. Which is basically FSU’s beef.
He's already wrong about OSU- the Big12 is in discussion with OSU and SDSU. I think it's more likely the MW dissolves and the 9 teams that vote to dissolve it join the Pac12 because the Pac12 has autonomyhttps://www.lawinsport.com/topics/item/what-does-autonomy-for-the-power-5-mean-for-the-ncaa
So under that scenario does the new Pac12 part of the Power 5? I would think not for football.
