“According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, in exchange for Beal the Wizards will receive six second-round picks and four first-round pick swaps, as well as Paul and Landry Shamet. The Suns will also receive Isaiah Todd and Jordan Goodwin.

The pick swaps give Washington the option to exchange picks with Phoenix in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030. The Wizards will get the Suns’ second round picks in 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2030. The Suns are also including cash.

In a separate deal, Washington’s new executive team sent Paul to the Warriors for Poole, a top-20 protected first round pick in 2030, and a 2027 second round pick.”

Per ESPN: Protected 2030 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick.

Seems odd for a few reasons:
- why did Phoenix cut CP if he had trade value?
- 4 years / $140 million left on Poole's contract

So the new backcourt is Poole and Jones, with Gafford, Deni, and Kispert up front.

That's not....terrible.

They traded Paul and did not cut him. Don’t forget they got Goodwin also in addition to Beal.  You generally have to match dollars in contracts for these trades to work.

Hope Poole can have a bounce back year and Galinari stay healthy. Then you flip them at the deadline. And that Jones can take a step forward.

Full BOYD mode.

So they flipped CP3 into a worse contract in exchange for a protected first round pick. Either Ted is really in charge or same as it ever was in DC

You need someone to take Kuzma and Beal’s bad shots each night. Can’t expect a rookie to step up and do that.

If Poole becomes what people thought a couple years ago you can trade him also.  They will be nowhere near the cap in any event for years.

Just wait until you see the even worse contracts they bring on board the next couple years!

Offering cap space to desperate teams should get more than a conditional pick in 6 years

Well they got a bunch of seconds which I know you don’t value and some potential swaps.

Don’t understand about the cap space. The Wizards are the ones getting the cap space.  From Beal for sure. Someone I saw is speculating now that they made the Poole trade so they can hit the salary FLOOR in future years. They will have plenty of room to take in more contracts in future years as more and more teams get penalized by the new CBA.

In any event you have made up your mind. I will wait for a couple of years to judge this. Beats rolling it back with Beal and KP and Kuzma for the next couple years and being stuck on purgatory.

Cap space is the most valuable asset the wizards will have in the next few years. Poole hurts that in future years. With the new second apron, teams will be desperate to unload contracts and absorbing them should net picks. Even this trade is allowing the warrior to resign Draymond- that’s worth more than a protected pick in 2030

Wojnis reporting the pick is top 20 protected. We just did the warriors a solid and got nothing in return

Can someone explain the pick protection? If the Warriors do have a top 20 pick in 2030, does the pick disappear or does it roll to future years until they don't draft in the top 20?

Disappears- teams can only trade picks 7 tears out

Got a second round pick also and someone more fun to watch than CP3 or Beal. Poole is only 25. They will still have plenty of cap space after this year. As noted there is a salary floor now to be aware of.

The floor just means you pay your guys more that year. Spending to spend is how you get Ian Mahinmi (or Jordan Poole).

Extend Deni at $25 million a year!

So far for 2024-25 all I see is Poole $30m. Shamet $11m. Gafford $14m. Kispert and Davis probably. Maybe $10m total for them. Rollins and Cooks at $2m each.  So maybe $70 million. They have plenty of space.

Wonder how the Thompson twins will do.  They don’t seem to have played against anyone.

I read that he did not practice well at the combine and there are some
Mysterious health concerns. I think he has star potential but who knows.

You just pay the whole roster for that year. It almost happened during the 76ers tank, but they made a trade to take on a bad contract. The wizards got rid of everyone, but didn’t end up with a single first round pick and somehow picked up one of the worst contracts in the nba in the process

It reminds me of when they took Jan because Dirk was good.
