"I wasn't in on those decisions, obviously, but I think he got a rough shake," said Werth during an Inside Baseball episode.
"The Nats wanted to get past that first round and they didn't. They felt they would be better suited to go in a different direction.
"One thing about Dusty is he does a lot for chemistry, he does a lot inside the clubhouse that people don't see. It's tough when you win that many games and and you win two divisions and then because you don't get through the first round of the playoffs you get let go. That's tough. I don't care who you are, that's a tough shake."
Baker spent two seasons as manager and won back-to-back National League East titles, but the Nationals were eliminated in the division series both years. Under his leadership, the club went 192-132, winning 97 games in 2017 and 95 in 2016.
