Why is it just assumed that Bryce will get more than Machado? They are pretty equivalent players and if anything, Machado is a little better.

machado plays a more valuable position(s).  They both have their enemies in baseball, too, so I don't think it is the jerk factor.  Harper has had the two best seasons of the two of them offensively, and contracts are about offense, I guess.

Offensively they're about equal.  Machado is far superior defensively, and so, on balance, Machado is the better player.   But Machado is a thug, and that makes people uneasy, which lowers his market value.  If there were no baseball, Machado would be an MS-13 member, Harper would at least keep clean (probably not amount to anything).

I don't see how one concludes that they are fairly equal.  They are fairly equal offensively.  Harper is a liability defensively while Machado is an elite third baseman. Doesn't that make Machado clearly superior?

As long as we're parsing words, I wouldn't call Harper a defensive liability.

Agree. Machado plays a premium position and is one of the top defenders at that position and in the game.

I guess people forget Bryce’s low iq throws missing the cut off man or throwing to the wrong base.

Bryce and Manny are both not $300 million players, no one is other than maybe Trout. However, Harper is the most overrated out of the group.

I would say that Harper is average in LF and RF and below average in CF.
