Werth was quoted as saying "I hate Philly" during his first few days in the Nats camp. Check the Crossing Broad article, that is what turned their fans against him.

He can and should do what he wants and what he thinks is best for him and his family. That’s his right. But decisions have consequences. And one of those is he will be booed at Nats Park.

Just my opinion, but I think Harper has been a jerk his entire time in D.C. This Nats fan (points thumb at self) will not miss, not even a little. At least now we wont have to watch him not get clutch hit when the Nats needed him to, and his actually getting one didn't happen often. Not often at all. Let the Phillies have the Jerk. We're much better as it stands now. Still, an experienced 5th Starter and a reliable lefty for the bullpen would put a fairly large smile on my face.

Oh well. I am excited about the outfield of Soto, Robles, Eaton, but there is no denying that the lineup has a loss of power by subtracting Harper and Murphy. Granted, Dozier pickup was huge. Hopefully Robles is the 2019 version of 2018 Soto. The savings acquired by not giving 300/10 to Harper should be used to extend Rendon and bring in another starting pitcher like Dallas Kuechel.

This will be a fun season. Watching Max strike Bryce out will be sick.

Being a sports fan is mostly irrationally emotional.   I like maintaining the illusion that the players hate the rivals as much as the fans do, and this kind of thing destroys that illusion.   If he went to the Dodgers, I'd mostly forget about him, wish him success and have decent enough memories about his time here.  Going to the Phillies would definitely turn me against him and ruin his legacy here.  It's definitely in the realm of possibility that he could have 4-5 mvp caliber seasons, and that would truly suck.

I'm hoping (and thinking) 2015 was the outlier. If he has a half decade of seasons like 2016-2018 before starting to decline while earning $35 million per, I'm happy to let philly try to fill out a roster around that

I don't have any source to back it up, but my recollection was that Philly didn't make a serious offer, much less one that compared to that the Nats offered.  If the Phils give him more than the 300/10 that was offered, fine.  But if he goes there for the same contract, then yea good riddance.
