I just don't understand this idea that Bryce is driving a lot of money at the park. Certainly $15 million is a ridiculous number, but lots of studies have been done of these claims in the past, and found scant evidence that "stars" drive spending.
Nationals Attendance (in millions)
2011: 1.94
2012: 2.37
2013: 2.65
2014: 2.58
2015: 2.62
2016: 2.48
2017: 2.52
2018: 2.53
We are solidly in the third tier of attendance markets. We didn't get an increase in his MVP-year in 2015. We don't have a decrease in years where he's injured like 2014 and 2017.
We had an increase from pre-Bryce to post-Bryce, but I'd say that has more to do with the team becoming a playoff team than with Bryce. Milwaukee drew an additional 500,000 fans from 2016 when they were terrible to 2018 when they won the division. That's not because of the magnetic nature of Christian Yelich.
