My favorite part is where he ignored that Gio is not a Nat anymore.  You'd think someone who beats off to MLB depth charts would be a little more aware of such things.

To be fair to ZDK, Gio still was a Nat when he wrote that post, as was Rafael Bautista.  I don't think any of that moves the needle.

Trea Turner missed the Super Two cutoff by two days. He's about to get paid.

I can’t get upset with a guy getting close to what he’s worth. Plus I’m not sure what could have been done. The die was cast in 2016.

Get ready for this with Soto as well.

The cutoff is determined every year. Not sure how they were supposed to know what it would be three years ago when they called him up

The luxury tax threshold is is set years in advance in the CBA. The super 2 threshold is based on the top 22 percent of players between 2 and 3 years. It’s unknowable unless you can foresee what every team is doing with their guys.

I guess you could have held him out another month just to be sure I guess. But once you bring him up, the only way out is to send him to the minors.

They need an improved Ouija board.

well, his first year up, they called him up and he more or less did not play, right?  I think folks said it was dumb at the time.

2015 - 27 games, 44 PAs.  He was brought up to sit and occasionally pinch run in a year we were fading.

Eovaldi as a relief ace please.  Give him $14 mil a year to do so.  Also get Miller, britton, ottavino, kimbrel, familia, or Robertson as well and we'd be set

Doolittle
Eovaldi
FA
Bear claw
Suero
Glover
Solis

I missed the "or" I thought you meant get all of them.

It's still retarded.

Evoldi: 14 million AAV
Kimbrel: 16-20 million AAV
Miller/Britton/Ottavino/Familia: ~ 10 million AAV
Robertson: ~8 million AAV

That's basically 20-25 million wrapped in two bullpen guys when you already have a closer locked in at 6 million per year for the next two seasons. That seems pretty stupid when you have a bunch of other holes on the team.

6 million is a decent deal for ~45 innings of elite relief

If I were an owner, Kimbrel would have to pay me to pitch for my team. Guy has been a shadow of what he once was in Atlanta ever since leaving there.

Could be a couple Nats targets in here:

Astros are planning to extend the $17.9M qualifying offer to Dallas Keuchel. They are planning not to extend it to Marwin Gonzalez. No word yet on Charlie Morton, who may be a close call.

Sure, but that's an insanely high bar to hit.  His ERA in Atlanta was under 1.50.   Even since, he's under 2.50 - and for reference, Mariano Rivera's career ERA was 2.21.  Kimbrel presently sits at 1.91 all-in.
