Games like this sum up the Nat's season - wildly inconsistent. Two straight shutouts, then 7 innings more of shutout, then score 15 runs.

This has been our Nationals for years. Not so many shut outs.

Losing the series but out scoring their opponents for the series.

I wish the Braves didn't exist, because it seems there's no doubt we'll pass the Phillies, and some said that was impossible 3 weeks ago.

Braves have a tough 9 game stretch starting labour day. 3 against the Red Sox, and then a 6 game west coast trip. Our schedule is tough too, but we're at home. Shave 2-3 games off the Braves lead during that stretch and we're 5-6 back before the Braves series. Win that series, or better yet sweep it, and we're 2-4 back with 9 straight games against the Mets and Marlins.

One thing about this season is the door has always been open if we could somehow figure things out. Figuring the things out has proven to be an awfully big challenge though.

If nothing else, there are only two teams to blow a WC lead of 8 games or more on September 1st. Barves were one of them that did it. If they can blow an eight game lead in September, they can blow a smaller one.

*edit: Don't get me wrong - I think we're toast this season. But until the math says otherwise, folks are allowed to keep on wishing.
