Beat writers are all basically the same. Some of you are throwing in sports columnists like Povich and Addie (who started as beat writers). Apples to oranges.

That wasn't the point of the conversation. It was about beat writers of which Addie and Povich were exceptional ones. The comments were about them as beat writers. When I first arrived in DC, Addie was the beat guy for the Nats/Senators and Povich usually did columns. Only old farts like Bubba remember Povich as a beat writer.

Who knows if Chelsea will become the next columnist.

Janes is a better writer than most beat writers. Her prose is actually pretty good. I imagine she will end up being a columnist. I think the Post is pushing her that way, given that they sent her to the Olympics for example.

According to FanGraphs, they have the third and fourth highest wRC+ in baseball history for players 20 or younger. And every other player in the top ten, with the exception of Mike Trout, is in the Hall of Fame.

He went from covering the Nationals to running the Post's East Asia bureau, according to his author page. That's an interesting jump.

I don't quite remember how it went but he said he didn't like sports and was embarrassed that he was covering sports and only did it for the money and couldn't wait to move on from the job. Didn't he want to be a food critic or was that a joke?
