I've always wanted Bryce to stay, but infatuation with Soto combined with BH's .225 is making a future of Robles/Soto/Eaton seem pretty enticing.  Plus, having the money not spent on Harper to spend elsewhere.

It would be great if he did make the ASG but not because I give a freak about individual awards but because it would mean that he continues to tear it up.

I tend to be reactionary, and I try to recognize and temper it, but I can't help but feel the same.  I'm currently loving the dream of rolling with that OF, moving Turner to 2B and getting Machado with the money not being spent on Harper and Murphy.  Oh, and re-signing Rendon.  Not gonna happen, I'm sure.  But no matter what, I hope they'll start grooming Soto to be a 1B.

How much is Machado going to cost in free agency? I truly have no clue. He'll probably get traded anyway.

If value is at all tied to ability, he should get just as much if not more than Harper is going to get.

Exactly, but that's usually not the case. I don't follow the Machado story at all but I've not heard anything close to what they say about Harper. I would definitely value Machado over Harper but he doesn't have the hype surrounding him that Harper has had orbiting around him since he was a kid.

Machado should be every bit as expensive as Harper.  He's the same age but plays a premium position.

I think All-Star is a stretch, but if he continues like this, i think he will be one of the favorites to get the Rookie of the Year. I know it's early...
Brian Anderson has an OPS .824, but has 260 at bats. I think Juan Soto with a late start would have to have an OPS at least 100 points higher to be fairly considered for the award of Brian Anderson, assuming everything stays on this course.

If Juan Soto even is in the ROY conversation in September it means he has stayed relatively hot and is an emerging star.

I believe Rhys Hoskins finished third in NL ROY last year and he didn't come up until August. So it's certainly possible for Soto to contend depending on the competition.

I believe Rhys Hiskins finished third in NL ROY last year and he didn't come up until August. So it's certainly possible for Soto to contend depending on the competition.

Or even Trea Turner 2 years ago.  When did he come up?

I was wrong. He was 4th.

He came up once and then was sent back down. I don't remember when that was. Then he came back and started playing CF. Not sure when that was either, but I think it was before the ASB. Or maybe just after.

Do you know what his injury was last year?

Ankle I believe

Edit: broken ankle in May, hand injury in July.

Quote
As Eric Longenhagen wrote when Soto was called up, in recent history, only Alex Rodriguez had less experience in the minors than Soto.

What about Ryan Zimmerman?

What about Ryan Zimmerman?

The article quoted limited the sample to those players who debuted in the majors as a teenager.

Did I miss where it stated that?

Nevermind, you meant the Longenhange's piece.

From 1990 on. Otherwise you'd have people like Al Kaline who went directly from HS to the Tigers at age 18 with no time in the minors.

Soto is 19 and has never faced the rigors of a day in, day out MLB season.  It's a loooooong slog that will challenge him considering he has probably never played this much in a season.  I'm convinced he will be a star but I also expect fatigue to set in during the dog days.

Hopefully by then the other guys start stepping up and producing to their regular level.

He'll probably handle the dog days a lot better than guys who grew up in the continental U.S.  And with four guys who can be rotated in the outfield, he should be able to get enough rest.  But I agree that there could be some mental fatigue, especially when he has a dry spell as a hitter.
