Juan Soto - The Truth making it in DC this year

He's not nearly as big as either of those guys (although Ramirez was around Soto's size when he came up) and moves much better than either of them.  He's not a big oaf - in fact, one of my concerns about potentially moving him to 1B is that he's a little small for the position.  He's not actually that big of a guy at all - listed at 6'1"/185, which seems about right from seeing him in person.  The defense is ok, not "atrocious" in any respect. 

Right, also from a batting point WMP is just an awful comp. WMP struck out excessively (>30% even in low minors) and didn't draw walks (5% or so). Juan Soto is not a 40 hit/80 power wildcard.

That's sort of like trying to compare Shelby Miller to Roger Clemens and Homer Bailey because he's a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher from Texas.  Go right ahead if you'd like to do that, but I doubt I'm the only one who'd find such a comparison to have little value.

I've been keeping tabs on him ( curiosity I guess) and after a terrific start in Harrisburg he has gone hitless . Yesterdays double header he was 0-5 and batting .143.

In my perfect world, Eaton returns in July and stays healthy the rest of the year in LF.  Robles also returns sometime in the summer, dominates AAA, then replaces MAT in CF sometime in August and is a clear upgrade.  If Robles had never gotten hurt, he probably already is playing everyday in DC.  Tough break there.  Soto can be brought along slowly this year in the minors, we win the World Series, Bryce resigns, then next year we start the season with Eaton in LF, Robles in CF, Harper in RF, and Soto waiting in the wings.

Outfielders are supposed to do 4-5 things well.  Wily Mo did one (hit), Manny did one (hit).  However, Manny hit well enough that watching him wander around in left field picking his nose was an acceptable trade off.  With Wily Mo, he didn't get on base enough to overcome the fact that his defensive skills were high school level.

Last time I went to  Bowie (and it was before the Nats existed) there was ample free parking.

Saying "pitchers are supposed to do one thing well - throw pitches" is like saying "hitters are supposed to do one thing well - hit."  That doesn't mesh with your apparent realization that Wily Mo couldn't hit breaking balls, tacitly acknowledging that hitting is more than one skill.  There's a lot more to pitching than "throwing pitches," and that's what makes up the difference between Roger Clemens and Homer Bailey.

Its obviously fun. But I can't believe they didn't call up Yadiel Hernandez instead. Maybe they want him up so they can see what they've got before Harper is a free agent to get some leverage.

HATE the circumstances for him coming up.  Howie has been awesome and such a valuable member of the team.  However, it's very exciting to see Soto in a Nats uniform.  We'll see how quickly he can adjust to this level and produce.  If he's overmatched, then it gives him a baseline to learn from and go back to the minors and improve.  If he can produce, then that's one less hole on the roster.
