According to Rizzo and Martinez before Sunday's game they said he is going to play. He has already missed a lot of time in his development due to injury so they didn't bring him up to sit. He is going to play against right handers and some (hand picked by Rizzo and Martinez) lefties. He has played mostly RF in the minors but with Harper in right and his average at best speed and arm he will probably be a left fielder. My guess is Reynolds and Adams will platoon at first until Zimm returns (duh) and split time in left against lefties. Stevenson will probably be seeing more time in CF if MAT doesn't wake up.
When the Nats signed him in 2015, Juan Soto was known as the Dominican Bryce Harper. Not bad.

I agree that it wasn't the Plan "A" but I am sure they had no other viable options. It could be as short as when Goodwin returns or time to make a trade with someone.

He really should not be saying things like that. "Occasional lefty" would be fine. By saying "occasional weaker lefty" he's calling tonight's starter "weaker".

I think this is sort of a no lose situation as long as he gets his chance to play for a while. If he plays regularly, this should not hurt his development (assuming they have a good psychological read and he can deal with possible failure). If they do catch lightening, great. If they don't, he stays up until Goodwin comes back, the coaches get to see him, he is more comfortable next call up, and they aren't wondering in September about whether his track record is enough to help that month or maybe in October. If he pans out, then Eaton can possibly take center when he is back and you can have Taylor in a deal or as 5th OF. This is a lot more valuable than seeing what you can get out of Moises Sierra. Maybe you are better off with Adams in left and Reynolds at 1st while RZ is out, but frankly, both of those guys are hitting better than they really are.

It's sooner than you would have liked, but there isn't much of a downside.

Soto right now is considered a very special talent and I agree with you that he would be better off staying in the minors for a while. Giancarlo Stanton never reached AAA before he was brought up but he did have 607 PAs in AA and the AFL compared to only 35 PAs for Soto in AA. My opinion is with a talent like Soto you have a plan and stick to it no matter what. I think promoting a player to the Majors with only 512 PAs in the minors is really rushing it considering he also didn't play college ball.
But having said that I am really excited to see him hit and hope he proves me wrong.

Harper only had 713 PAs in minors before reaching Majors (Includes 375 PAs at AA, AAA, AFL) plus he had a year of JUCO).
