Herrera and Melancon have not stunk here. No one else you mentioned should be considered a top bullpen arm

Melancon was great.  Herrera has been okay.  The rest are/were way past their primes when they came here.

Jonathan Papelbon
Mark Melancon
Kelvin Hererra
Yusmerio Petit
Shawn Kelly
Joe Blanton
Rafael Soriano
Oliver Perez
Casey Janssen

It just seems we bring in these arms and they stink as soon as they get here.

Melancon was great for the short time he was here. Kelley has been really good when healthy but I wouldn't call him a "top" arm when they got him. The others on that list were either average relievers or well past their prime. Crapelbon was done before we traded for him. Had nothing left.

Is there a reason Shawn Kelly is still on this team?

Because going into tonigh, he'd given up 1 run the entire month.

I wanna know why he was upset.

with a 20+ lead I'd imagine you are just throwing over the plate to try and get fly and ground balls, so you are bound to give up runs.

Yea, I'm betting it was more than just his issues with the umpires.

We are better without both of them honestly.

They may go to another team and be lights out. But they at least need a change of location. Best of luck.

Maybe, but two things:

1. I don't know that we have a better replacement
2. He was actually doing well the last couple months. Since June 1, he had a 2.82 ERA, was striking out 8 hitters per 9, and had greatly reduced his walks.

Had to bide his time until the deadline in case he needed to deal players. Plus, if he makes examples of the role players, then maybe the "stars" will stay in line.

Then another team should be happy to pick him up.

When you leave a game angry, throwing fits and shooting looks into the dugout when you are up by 20+ freaking runs... you are telling everyone in the organization who is your #1 concern.

If we are gonna make our run, limiting selfishness is a good thing.

Might big claim for a guy with a 4.5 BB/9 this season.

The Nats have more leakers than the White House and Congress.

Fewer now.

Yea. That was just ridiculous stuff. Just get the ball back and throw another pitch.

Willing to bet there was more going on than just this incident and this was just the tipping point. Kelley's been more than serviceable for a little while so gotta be more behind the scenes.

Yeah. If you have stuck with the guy this long, it makes very little sense to DFA him now that he has started to pitch well unless there were clubhouse issues.
