Like most, I don't think it wasn't illegal but I did have a cringe moment watching it in slo-mo.   The legs of both players had an awkward looking "tangle".       I would have understood if one of the other Mets had gone after Eaton.
The thing is, there is, and always has been, a way to break up the doubleplay without hurting the guy.  That's what Eaton was doing.  He "took him out softly".  It's unfortunate that this isn't legal, but it did look to me as though  he went out of his way to break it up and that's what the new rule is about.

I said 6 out of 10 the rest of the way would probably do it.   That's the same pace they played over a year last year, and probably a little below what they were expected to play at this year.   Maybe coming back to earth for the Nats is playing .600 baseball.

6 out of 10 simply isn't going to cut it. Not unless we see a pretty significant collapse by the Phillies.

Too little, too late.

Nats have won three in a row. Have to start somewhere. Most important thing is we have to eventually put some L's on the Braves and Phillies head to head.

6-2 in our last 8.  We just need to keep winning say every 8 out of 10 from here on out.

Yea, like I said, that's not realistic over the course of 2 months ...

The Phillies have played right at .500 over the last 22 games.  Continuing that would get them to 87 wins.  I say 87-89 is a pretty good guess.  Their run differential suggests they have a better record than they should.

6-6.2 wins over every 10 games should get us there.

We have 10 games against each other, so how those go will sway things significantly.

Probably not. You are expecting both the Phillies and braves to play that way. Need to play .650 ball.

Both Phillies and Braves are well over .500 in 1 run games. We are well below.

And only 5 back.

Believe.

I think the Nats have to go 38-16 down the stretch and end with 93 wins to have a a comfortable shot of making the playoffs. That is only possible if they have a long win streak in there somewhere. They can slip in at 90, but that would require doing really well against ATL and PHI.

Nats probably finished themselves with the whole they dug the month before the ASB, but the season isn't over.

If we do it, I think a slow and steady climb wins the race.   Keep winning series, and pick up a game every week or two.   A big winning streak is great if they can follow it up with a winning record when it ends though.

I am guessing if we were up by 5 on the team the last 2 division titles and 4 of the last 6, that we wouldn't be feeling very comfortable with our position in the standings!

If the Nats get 89 wins, and that includes a winning record against the rest of the games against the Phillies and Braves, I will bet anyone that is good enough to win the division, and probably takes it by at least a couple games.   The only way the Phillies or Braves get to 93 is if they beat us up in the rest of the games left, and if that happens we don't get 89 wins anyway.

Winning 2 out of every 3 will probably get it done, and is a doable goal.  We're 55-53, with 54 left to play.  Winning 2 out of every 3 gets us to 91 wins.  Just aim to win each series, especially against the Phillies and Braves, and avoid any losing streaks longer than 2 in a row.

We probably won't get it done, because we haven't demonstrated any ability to play consistently good baseball so far, but it is certainly doable if we play like the team we ought to be.

If they want to win the east, they're gonna have to play better vs. the Braves and Phils than they have since May 1. They're 4-9, I believe. They did well in April vs. the Braves but have really struggles vs. those teams since. They've got a bunch of opportunities to do that, but if they fail in those series' the rest likely will be irrelevant.

They’re playing the Mets and marlins.  This weekend was always going to be a wash.

Never could understand why they didn't trade him. Not like they're going anywhere so might as well start the rebuilding process

Uh .... that's literally deGrom's entire season.

Because they didnt plan for it. Trading a star like that needs a lot of scouting.

The Phillies only have three challenging series remaining for the rest of the season.
