I had to laugh when the yankee fans were booing Stanton so bad by the second week of the season when he hit two home runs on opening day. It's very rare for a Nat to get booed at Nats park. I like that. Maybe some free agent players to be should think about that before they jump.

Only those players with obscenely huge contracts get booed, and only if they don't produce, and its only Yankee fans that boo; I can't think of another fan base.  Yet, players still want to play for the Yankees.  I guess if you are a star the magnitude of Stanton, fan friendliness is not going to be any factor whatsoever in your decision who to sign with. And given their huge egos, they assume they are going to produce, so the possibility of being booed is not a concern.

Watching the Mets fans boo Matt Harvey was really sad, especially because it was before the partying got out of control (or at least highly visible) and he'd only been sucking for about 3 starts.

Not a fan of fans booing their home team. Not at all. Yeah, I know they pay and have a right to do so...

And don't even get me started on visiting fans booing players in their home park.

I've seen Cubs fans mercilessly boo their own back in the day.

I don't believe you ever boo your own guys unless there is CLEARLY a lack of effort(see: Albert Haynesworth on the Skins, or Jaromir Jagr on the Caps). If they're trying their best and sucking, your booing isn't going to help them. Cheer them on and help get them back on track.

Agreed, although I make exceptions for domestic abusers.  I'll boo the crap out of a domestic abuser, even if he's got a .400 batting average.

I think when most fans boo a player on their team, they're not necessarily wishing ill on that player, they're complaining that said player is still on the team or is being used in that situation.

In Chicago I once saw Ozzie Guillen get booed as he walked to the mound to take a popular relief pitcher out of the game (Bobby Jenks, back when he was a newly-called-up prospect being eased into the bullpen). Gotta be an ego boost for a young man to hear a crowd boo the manager for taking you out.

Mickey Mantle was booed very heavily in Yankee Stadium for his strikeouts with men on base. From 1958-60, he struck out over 120 times each season which, back then, was a lot. Around 650 AB in all those years so his K rate by today's standard would've made him a contact hitter nowadays.

I remember Mantle well from the 50s and 60s, and there was a faction of Yankee fans that disliked him (bordering on hate) for no rational reason other than jealousy - jealous because he was handsome, talented, and got all the girls.  Ironically, the fans hate turned to Maris when he came along and particularly so in 61 because he was challenging Ruth's record, and Mantle then because every Yankee fan's favorite.

Matt Harvey has been traded to the Reds for catcher Devin Mesoraco and cash.

Mesoraco has been a Red (majors and minors)  since 2007 and slashed .234/.309/.405   over his 8 years in the big leagues.  Depth move for the Mets, which will surely anger fans who thought they were gonna get Realmuto for Harvey.

Mesoraco has been hurt a lot. Saw him in 2017 in Pensacola where he was rehabbing.

Plus taking on the remainder of his 5.5 Mil salary They should have waited until he hit FA as I imagine there would only be a few teams pursuing him.
