I was listening to XM and they played Blues Traveler "Hook", which like many BT songs, features the incomparable harpoon playing of John Popper.

This caused me to pick up the bag o' harps and try to hang, which is impossible.  So I went instead to youtube and found a series of harp lessons by Popper. Once exhausted, I saw a Richard Thompson link and ultimately found a duet of Nancy Griffith with Thompson on what is (IMO) Thompson's finest song, "Wall of Death".

Perhaps you motorcyclists out there are familiar with what the WOD is;  if not, you should be.

Not bein' a smart ass but is the person who wrote this song from Pittsburgh/W. PA?     The rides listed all exist at Kennywood Park.   It's an amusement park in the Pittsburgh area.    Could be some other place.

One More From the Road, the 1976 Lynyrd Skynyrd live album from the Fox Theatre.  Whiskey Rock-A-Roller!

I had heard this album before I had heard the studio version of Freebird, so to me this is what I think of when "Freebird" is shouted.

Wore the needle out on this one. Still have the original vinyl in the attic. BTW, there's a 3rd version of Freebird from the early days that's made it's way to Pandora...it's missing some familiar guitar leads and licks, but it sounds cool anyway. RIP, RVZ....

SXM 30 is a station that has different formats and groups for a couple of weeks to a month.  for examples, for a while it was Eagles radio.  Well, for the past several weeks, it has been the Freebird channel featuring Skynyrd but also other southern rock acts predominantly from the late 70s.  They did slip in Whipping Post and some Stevie Ray, too :) Also a little Feat.  The format has been extended to the end of April, so basically this is it, but it was darn fun while it has lasted.

This is likely my favorite Clapton piece.  The only beef I had with the Cream version was how brief it was.  This addresses that...

there's a fantastic Skynyrd tribute concert on AXS right now - one more for the fans.  Cheap Trick doing "gimme back my bullets' was the highlight IMHO.

by the way, SXM 30 now is doing Fleetwood Mac.   That channel is their limited run channel.

Thanks for that info. I just checked it out on Youtube....the whole concert is on there apparently. Watched Warren Haynes rip it up on "That Smell". Gonna watch more later.

Last night I went to see The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain play at the Strathmore. They always put on a great show, campy but not annoying, and you really haven’t lived till you see an 8-piece ukelele band do a cover of Blur’s Song 2 followed by a mashup of classical, Sinatra, Gloria Gaynor and The wussycat Dolls (yes all of that in one song plus a little more mixed in).

Why have I never heard of this?!

Zeal and Ardor is a very innovative mash-up of blues/gospel and black metal that got a lot of buzz with their debut in 2016. This is the latest single for their next album which releases soon.

Saw 10,000 Maniacs last night at the Birchmere, fine entertainment.

Anyone who's been to the Birchmere knows the standard drill -

1- queue up outside before the door opens at 5,
2- when the line starts, get your number for orderly admission to the listening room, which opens at 6,
3- have a drink or two, mingle
4- door opens, when your number is called proceed directly to your targeted area and grab the best seats available
5- order and eat dinner, chill
6- show starts at 7:30

Alternatively, what we did last night -
3- have a drink or two, mingle  walk across the street to RT's restaurant and have a fine New Orleans style dinner.  I had "smothered catfish", fried catfish smothered in shrimp etoufee.  C'est bon!  I will say I was tempted by the pecan crusted halibut topped by the crabmeat in a 3 mustard hollandaise sauce.

We made it back over to the Birchmere with a full 5 minutes to spare and got great seats in one of the center tables by the stage.

If you're including my post in that, Zeal and Ardor's creator/front man is a black guy.

I was too stuck in my tribe to appreciate Natalie (sic?) Merchant's pulchritude at the time. My loss.

Speaking of pulchritude:

Good for you Terp.  Birchmere was always our favorite music venue to see Jazz groups such as Rippingtons or Spyro Gyra.  A couple of us would take turns getting there at 1pm to be 1st in line.  There was always something to be said with being able to watch the musicians play their instruments as well as hear great music.

meth fueled metalrage has never been my thing.

We all live in a false dichotomy, a false dichotomy, a false dichotomy.

Saw these guys (Durand Jones and the Indications) earlier this year at 7th Street Entry and they tore the roof off that sucker:

Their Brawltimore white boy drummer did a Smokey Robinson cover that was straight fooking fire they just released as a 7”:

But hey, feel free to keep living in a world where it’s either reliving the late ‘70s and early ‘80s or “methed our metal”. Those of us living in reality will enjoy the plethora of listening options.
