I don't get the WNFF obsession with this statement about how much money he wanted to make. Every player wants to make as much as possible. Maybe Bryce was a little brash about saying it on the record. So what. I don't get all the resentment over it.
It's neither obsession nor resentment.  It's simply stating fact.

How many Nats players (including those on IR) can you name that you'd rather have up than Bryce when a base knock is needed in the bottom of the ninth in a critical spot?

I'd take Soto and Rendon, and have to think hard on Kendrick, Eaton and Turner.

No, he claimed "40 million" was "selling him short".   At the time, I think he was thinking 50 million. That was right after his MVP. No idea what he's thinking now.
I’m sure Boras told him to shut up after that one. I just want him to be happy and play with Realmuto. And not have to play with the Syracuse team. Or Fresno I suppose.

For 40 million dollars, there should be no one.

I think they will pay up to a certain point. If somebody throws crazy money at him, then he's gone. Lerner didn't get rich by being sentimental. The breaking point might be $30M a year.

I think when you are 93 and you know that your family is set; and you can't take it with you - I do believe sentiments are a significant factor.  Not many people have the opportunity to bequest an icon to their home town.   Obviously, who knows.  But I really think Lerner will make it happen.

He should sign with Miami then.  He'd be happy.

That $40 million and staying on the team sound pretty good right now.

Bryce Harper is in full uniform 3.5 hours before the game. Said he wanted to get here early and enjoy putting on the white jersey for what might be the last time.

that's the thing, he's setting it up to say that he didn't get to stay here because the FO didn't want him back when what it might mean is that the FO decided not to cave in to his ridiculous demand,

Yes, I'm aware of that. Like I said, Boras isn't stupid.

I think you are seriously undervaluing Eaton. He isn't injury prone. He had one injury and it extended into this season. From all accounts it's been fixed and he has performed. The dude gets on base almost 40 percent of the time. He would bring back significant return.

I love Eaton's game, and I didn't call him injury prone.  But he did suffer a nasty injury and while he has some pop and isn't just a strictly speed guy, he is entering the age where his overall skillset can begin to decline.  I hope we could get a major return, but I wouldn't expect something similar to what we gave up to get him (at least the perceived value at the time of those guys).

Does everything the guy says have to be nit picked? Maybe he genuinely loves playing for this organization? My god, some of you nag and whine about this guy like he’s personally wronged you. It’s just crazy to me that so many are ready to watch him walk away but I digress. He’s a good dude and a great player and most on WNFF are simply unhappy that he’s not Mike Trout.

Amen.  The hate for this guy would make you think he was OJ.

I don't see how he is coming back with all this fanfare and reflection and all the such. It's all setting up for this as his farewell, the offseason narrative from Boras that we didn't want him, etc. Man, that bums me out.

Why do you have to call it hate?  I want him to move on.  I don't hate him. I don't dislike him.  I just want him to move on.

Corbin isn't Strasburg.  He's a lefty, yes, but he's not remotely as good.   He's having the best season of his career: 3.23 ERA.  Strasburg has four seasons better than that (one was last season, after he signed the extension).  Or put otherwise, Corbin's career-best year - this one, at age 29, for a starter with a TJ in his history - is worse than Strasburg's career average ERA.   This is the only season in his career Corbin has had an ERA under 3.50.  He has a higher career ERA than Gio and Roark.  His career ERA is .01 run lower than Drew Pomeranz and .011 lower than Brett Anderson, both of whom are both free agents and lefthanded, and neither of whom is in any sort of crazy discussion about $25 million a year.

I'm not saying he's actually projects close to those two going forward given that he's been quite good this season and was perfectly adequate last, but he has over 600 innings in 117 games since TJ and will turn 30 next year.  Maybe someone will pay him $25 million a year, but odds are they'll regret it.

I don't care about Old Ted's money.  I do care about Old Ted's money if he gives $100 million of it to Patrick Corbin and forgoes signing someone who might have good odds of being reasonably good over the length of a 4-year contract.

BIL shouldn’t go to the game. I know he will cry.

I actually have tickets but I have a meeting. I've been to three out of the last four games, and hundreds over the years. I've seen enough to want him back. But not enough to cry. He don't pay mah bills, bruther.

But he is really loved by a lot of fans at the park. He will get an ovation.

This is such a bummer. This is obviously a farewell from the team and Bryce.

What a nightmare of a season.

I don't see indication it's a farewell at all.  I've seen both sides say they'd like for the relationship to continue, but hundreds of millions of dollars are being negotiated.  You weaken your stance if you seem dead-set on bringing him back at all costs or for him dead-set on returning even if not offered the best deal possible.  I think it's a better than 50% chance he returns.
