Iron man Lou Gehrig never got sick like that.

I'm in the middle of a book on the topic so thought I'd throw out some fresh knowledge.

What does it matter? Are we insinuating he’s faking? Maybe he’s got some health issue we don’t know about, maybe he’s extra susceptible to getting sick. Who knows? 12 instances of some bug over six years doesn’t seem crazy excessive.

Conditioning has nothing to do with getting the flu.  It may affect severity, or may not.  The 1918 pandemic caused excessive autoimmune response so people in the prime of life and most fit were hit the hardest, while many older people were spared.
Yeah, I’m not sure why athletic conditioning would prevent you from getting an infectious disease. Plus, it’s unlikely he actually had the flu all of those times (or any of them actually).
Except there are numerous studies that show that exercise not only helps against sickness but also helps get over it more quickly.

Its about three years. The season is about six months, therefore that is a sample of about 3 years. 12 times in 3 years seems like a lot to me.

None of us are the guy’s doctor. This seems like a dumb thing to obsess over (which compiling a list of every time the guy has been listed as sick certainly qualifies as...)

People can do whatever they want, but complaining about him being sick when there is zero real info seems dumb. I’m allowed to call it dumb. What if the guy has Crohn’s disease? We literally have zero idea.

I’m with bluestreak on this, maybe Bryce was preemie and has a harder time fighting off things or something but it’s not like he’s “oh my neck is stiff from sleeping wrong I must rest it” which is an excuse I’ve heard on this team before and is one that actually makes me :smh:

maybe so but if Slateman wants to bring it up then let him. the reality is that bs has a problem with people who don't think or feel like he does, that was why he started a bunch of troll threads at one point

When have I ever said anyone couldn’t post whatever the hell they wanted? All I did was say it’s dumb. You say what people post is dumb *all the time*
You literally still make fun a a comment I made a year ago.  People post dumb crap on this board all the time. People are super negative on this board. People say stuff authoritatively that has zero basis in fact.  I’m allowed to call it like I see it. I don’t call names, I don’t threaten people, I just refute arguments and try to post facts. Just because I don’t agree with the negative groupthink here doesn’t make me wrong and it certainly doesn’t mean that I’m telling folks how to post.

Our biggest mistake was not trading him in the offseason.

We could have contended without him.

No extension for Rizzo if he had done that, even though the right thing.

Or did you mean the specific passage I based my comment about immunity response on?

The book is well crafted,  examines how the virus began likely in Kansas (despite the misnomer "Spanish Flu"), spread, and so severely impacted the US in particular, town by town.

I'm sure that is generally true, but in the case of flu it may not be, depending on the immune response triggered by that specific strain.
