Offer Harper 6/180 or 10/300. He will have opt outs after 3 anyway. If you can extend Harper, trade Robles.

Already suggested Soto as catcher.

I would trade everyone else and keep Robles. Eaton and Taylor maybe keep Goodwin.

Someone has to catch instead of Severino. He's a basket-case at this point offensively. And the Nats other "hitters" can't carry him, that's for sure.

To be fair, plenty of teams win without getting production from the catcher offensively. It’s the other 7 that need to step up. If we had JT, we’d still have a getting them home problem.

I don't understand the argument for offering him a long term contract because he'll opt out after a few years anyway. What if he doesn't opt out and we're stuck with him for 10 years @ $30M/year. What if this is the real Harper we're seeing now. Offer him two years. Three maybe. If he declines, let him walk.

opt outs let you pay him less for his early years because it offers the player both security on the down side and more money on the upside. Team makes out like a bandit if he plays well enough to opt out.

If you're trading Harper, you're punting the next three seasons. May as well package Scherzer, Strasburg, Rendon, and Turner

Lucroy and Ramos jump off the list. Maldonado might be another available one that may make some sense at a low cost, but probably only if Wieters is unavailable. As for the rest, most are with contenders (Suzuki, Flowers, etc...) or do not wow me (Mesoraco).

I think Ramos is a perfect fit. In theory when everybody is healthy and doing what they should, we have enough offense. But that's just in theory. Severino can't hit a lick at this point in his career, so we NEED Ramos bat. Wieters isn't the answer. How much would Tampa really want for Ramos? How many contenders need a catcher? I doubt we'd have to give up even what we gave up for Herrera.

Does the fact that Ramos provides virtually nothing defensively concern anyone? I think the offense will be fine as Murphy and Eaton continue to settle in. I think I'd rather have the better defense that Severino, Keiboom and Wieters bring. I'd think I'd go for Lucroy before I'd go for Ramos.

I thought I remembered Ramos became quite good at throwing out runners by his last season or two here. I know he sucks at catching the ball at plays home, but not sure that happens often enough to matter or if he still sucks at that.

I remember him being decent at blocking pitches and calling games. Not sure about framing.

Wieters ha sthe worst footwork for a catcher at this level i have ever seen

Well, Ramos certainly isn't throwing runners out. He's 3/25 in that category. Wieters was 9/18. Sevi is 12/36 and Kieboom is 5/9. Kieboom and Wieters have only 1 passed ball between them. Sevi has 4. Ramos has 5. There's a lot more nuance to all this, I'm not gonna dig into it that far. Ramos is the best offensive option at the spot.

Impressive! Looked like Scherzer minus Max's HR "problem." Then again, he was facing the toothless Nats.

Ramos is so vastly superior offensively to what we have that Sevi would have to be the greatest defensive catcher of all-time to make up the overall value difference. Wieters isn't particularly good defensively or offensively.
