Here we go again:

Quote
2. Maria could also affect the British and U.S. Virgin Islands and
Puerto Rico by mid week as a dangerous major hurricane, and
hurricane watches could be issued for these islands as early as
Sunday.  Interests in these areas should monitor the progress of
Maria and follow any advice given by local officials.

Here we go again:

Trump managed to keep Juan out of the country.  No way Maria comes into the country.  If it were Mary, then all bet are off.

Jose might not be done yet, the Euro is suggesting that Maria may intersect with Jose via something called the "Fujiwara effect."  Essentially they'd spin around each other, propelling Jose into the East Coast around the NJ/Delaware border.  That scenario is about 10 days out so it's not likely to occur.

(Mindfact)  Appeared to be strange weather at the Park yesterday.     I seldom remember such a constant wind coming out of the SE.    It actually pushed some darker/heavier clouds back to the west.    In the SE distance, there were huge (high) cloud formations that almost looked tropical.

Tropical storm air. I took the dog for a walk in the woods today. Skin on my forearms was cold, but I was sweating like a dog.

Sticky and cool.

I thought it was the a pre-cursor of Jose in the Atlantic at first.     Got home checked the weather.    It appears he's still out and south,  off the Carolinas.

He is, but we're not getting our typical westerly winds. It's straight off the Atlantic right now.

Not really off the Carolinas - Jose is moving east, out to sea.  There is some wind here, but not any different than any other occasion.  Cape Cod could be different.

Maria now on track to hit the USVI as a Cat-4/5 storm later this week.  Unbelievable.  It does look like it will turn north before hitting the US mainland though some of the Euro runs bring it very close or into SC.

The waves are great tonight off the OBX coast.  The wind is refreshing - 2IPAs & I had dinner at Nags Head Pier.  We had to hold on to our plates, but we were certainly not in any danger.  It was a great night.

There's a really wonderful life-affirming bandwidth of weather in between "normal" and "dangerous"

Apparently, the entire Puerto Rico electric grid is knocked out. Only emergency generators at hotels, homes, etc... have power.

The electricity will come back. Eventually. Many of the houses and buildings will not. Best to hope for is a low death and injury count. They took a direct hit.

Son is in Yellowstone. Some of the roads are closed due to snow. Mother Nature always surprises.

yeah, there was a big storm there a few days ago, that's not at all unusual for this time of year.

With Jose weakening, Maria's track is shifting west.  It's not a big threat to the east coast yet, but it bears watching over the next few days.  The models had Jose pulling Maria out to sea, but Jose collapsed faster than anticipated.

Looked on the web and seems first snow is usually October but sometimes in September.

Topper made some comment about when a major (4?) hurricane's eye hits PR, it always hits the states.   I'd have to google the exact quote.

Small sample size.
