Rizzo has had a great tenure

In 2011, you could say that, in 2012, it was absolutely true, but he's been here six years and the team is consistently mediocre (unless you want to call two first round exits bracketed by missing the playoffs entirely something else)

I'd bet he's got one more year.  Anything less than a 90+ win season means he's gone.

MLB NEtwork reports that Cal Ripken Jr. is on the list.

 :spaz:

I'd rather have Acta or Riggleman back than hand the manager's job over to a Peter Angelos flunky.

It could be a fun way to thumb our noses at Angelos. Him not having any experience is off putting.

Yep next season better run deep in the playoffs if not getting to the World Series. Anything less and rizzo won't be back the following season.  Old man learner wants a World Series win before he passes and he is not a young man

The Old Man Learner will be sorely disappointed, because there is no way for a GM to actually come through on something like that.

Today is a great day to be a Nats fan.

Not for me, this was already a foregone conclusion so it's no biggy.

Knorr, McCatty, Tarasco, etc. will find great jobs elsewhere.

Some of them may be allowed to interview with the incoming manager.

Getting lucky on your wedding night is a foregone conclusion. Doesn't mean it's not something to be happy about.

#Nats announce they have let their entire coaching staff go. Knorr, McCatty, Schu, Henley, Tarasco, LeCroy, Weidemaier, all gone.

They haven't dumped the Clubhouse Coach (self-appointed). Salary too high, I guess. Until he's gone, the stench remains.

Rizzo says he spoke to several players to get their input over last few days, wouldn't divulge what their opinions were.

#Nationals, by firing entire staff, showed they learned from one mistake. Allowed Williams to hire only one coach: Weidemaier. Not ideal.

Not saying coaches were #Nationals’ problem; they had some good ones. But a manager needs confidants on his staff.

Anybody know what Williams made?  Gotta think he was here on the cheap and that made it easy for Rizzo to hire him, extend him, and ultimately fire him.

Probably considerably less than the $5 million they paid McLouth this year.

Just read this. 7 decisions. 6 were pitching decisions.

and that list didn't include the 'standard decision' of batting your pitcher in the 6th, with runners on base, when he was already at ~90 pitches.

I think that was the game against the Mets when Ross gave up the dinger to Duda, no?

I don't know how you could limit a list like that to seven.  There are DOZENS of completely inexplicable decisions Williams made that contributed to this team losing games.

Last week, for example, when the team is long out of contention.  Tanner Roark has already given up a homerun to AJ Pierzynski. In the sixth inning, he wants the lineup to get to Roark's spot to ph for him.  It doesn't so he sends Roark back out...to face Pierzynski again and gives up another homerun which turned out to be the winning margin.  That's not the worst part.  Roark doesn't even finish the inning!  He goes to a reliever anyway and he gets pinch hit for in the next inning.

It's September.  He has how many relievers in the bullpen?  He could have used 1,2,3,4,5 relievers in the inning...a lefty for Pierzynski, at least, and it wouldn't have been much of a strain and then ph for the pitcher spot in the lineup.  His decision making, too often, seems to have only made sense to him.

That's my first requirement for a manager.  The new manager needs to be able to make quick, in-game decisions in a constantly changing environment and be able to explain them.
