Damn...Curly W wasn't in the drop-down menu. Maybe it's only on the GDT board.

Season ticket renewals must really be down for the organisation to make this bold a move.

Everyone seems to like McCatty, but I again go back to wondering how many pitchers we have that made it to the major leagues and/or came to the team and significantly IMPROVED, which would be a sign that McCatty was actually adding value.

Maybe I'm completely off base here, but there are teams like the Cardinals, Mets, and others where pitchers seem to improve upon access to their pitching coach. Maybe Clippard is a huge success story?

Well I guess that takes Knorr out of the running for manager.  Rough year for Knorr.

I bet he's managing a major league team on opening day.

Does MW end up on Counsell's staff in Milwaukee?  Perhaps with JZ?

I'm assuming dismissing the entire staff means we're bringing in a well known established manager like a Jim Leyland who will demand the ability to choose his own staff.

Gotta be. Hopefully Rizzo will at least plant a bug in his ear about Knorr. He's one piece  of continuity that might be helpful.

I posted something similar on the previous page. I don't remember any stories of McCatty really helping a pitcher out. Blake Treinen seems like a great example of this - if we traded him to the Cardinals, he would become an ace.

This has the Lerners mark all over it.  They're mad that they spent $160 million for this team and they ordered Rizzo to clean house.

You could look at it the other way, as well: how many pitchers have left the Nats and gone on to greater success elsewhere?  How many got significantly worse?  Anecdotally, McCatty didn't seem to move the needle much for either.  Sure, Edwin  Jackson sucks now, but he was worse here than he was before coming here, so it's looked like one long slide as a starter.  Detwiler maybe?  Was he ever good enough to really count for this type of thing?

This had to be done.

MW ridiculously underachieved with the roster he was given.

This should have been a playoff team, at the very least.

also Rizzo should be on notice at this point.

He's got no one else to shield him now.

Rizzo has had a great tenure, but 2016 is make or break. If 2016 breaks, he gone.

Absolutely. Nobody left to scapegoat. It's playoffs or bust for Rizzo.
