All this talk is great but man I just can't see us firing Williams until we're totally out of it. Doesn't seem like Rizzo's MO. Riggleman walked out on him, Davey retired, and Williams is Mike's boy. You think he is going to be quick to fire his first real managerial hiring?
I think we're going to learn a lot about Mike Rizzo if he stays the course.  If it works and the Nats make a comeback and win the division then he looks like a genius.  If not, he may be gone despite his amazing trade track record and how much he has rebuilt our farm system because he didn't have the guts to make a tough decision when it was needed.  I don't know anyone who believes Matt is the guy anymore.  If the Nats go on a tear starting tonight I will gladly tip my cap to Rizzo.  But, if not, he becomes more culpable the longer Williams is here.

I think the nats end up playing better, but not enough to threaten the mets and miss the playoffs.  If I was Lerner I'd fire rizzo and williams.  Rizzo has made great trades to stock the farm, but he also doesn't make trades that help the main club when needed.  I still don't know why a rookie manager was hired to take control of a team that was ready to contend and rizzo should take the fall for hiring a bonehead that freaked up the nats in the playoffs last year and this lifeless 2015 season.

If they lose the next two series he's gone when they get home. If they win them both he stays. Not sure about a split.

They return home Friday - this series against Colorado is the last one on the road trip.

Yeah, but if they lose two series by Friday, he's definitely gone.

Same as the other 117 really.  Not like we've ever had a consistent lineup this year.

Fired by Friday, I hope.

When Boswell says this, it probably means that Ted Lerner has made a decision:
Quote
“In Matt [Williams’s] case, he does appear to have Caretaker Manager characteristics — meaning he’s been given what the organization feels is a pat-hand team and his job is just not to mess it up,” Boswell said. “So when things go VERY wrong, his marching orders — go by the book, players-win-and-lose-not-managers –are not suited to the crisis at hand. A manager with no previous (extensive minor-league) managerial experience seldom has the skill set to do much motivational work on the group’s psyche.”

I doubt he gets fired even if the gets swept in both series.  Maybe a change is made after the season is done, but for now it looks like MW is going to be allowed to sink or swim.    If he would get fired this week if he lost both series I'd root against the nats just for that to happen.  I don't think I've hated any other manager for the expos/nats organization more than MW.

Give me a manager that runs out of the dugout, kicks dirt, throws a base, and generally let's his extreme displeasure fire every one up. Earl Weaver, Casey Stengel, Billy Martin - you know what I mean!
Replay has greatly neutered the hothead managers. I think Williams would have had some classics if replay weren't around to answer all those calls definitively.

How many millions would it take to get Matheny? Or Showalter?

Yeah, I know. Stupid idea.

Another game; more dumb decisions. I can't understand why Zmnn batted and stayed in.

That said, in all honesty I doubt Rizzo makes a move at all, let alone during the season.

This game bought him as much rope as a junk time homer was buying Desmond earlier this year.

Got to win tomorrow. Strtasburg pitching, then Scherzer. Need every win that's out there.

Williams should be fired even if the team wins every game between now and the playoffs.

He's a crap-tier manager.

Matheny is a horrible manager. See Randy Choate, Michael Wacha last year. As bad or worse than Ned Yost + Yordano Ventura. Showalter, on the other hand...
