I like Bryce...a lot...and he gets a pass from me...but he needs not do this any more...it's counter-productive...

It was very hot today but Bryce did his part to fan the crowd. It's rude to leave early all things considered.

There are better ways he could have expressed this.  Such as:

"It would be really helpful to us (ballplayers) if the fans would stay until the end of the game.  It's their choice, but it would be helpful to us."

Don't talk about the fans at all, especially when you go 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts.  I don't want to list the ugly particulars again but they, they were sat down 1-2-3 a time or two (or three) in the mid to late innings.

Talk about that Bryce!  No, you'd rather throw the fans under the bus than the people who were actually on the field stinking up the place!

Sounds like a good new thread for WNFF

Hey, it just occurred to me. Is Harper now a member of the The Fan Police? :mg:

Most of them probably don't last for 3+ hours.

A game of Aussie Rules football is 120 minutes of playing time plus a quater, half and three quarter time break so it is usually just on 3 hours. fans will sit through 100 point losses to the very end

True dedication, my friend. And then people have the audacity to sit on their couch and criticize people for leaving early. :bang: :bang:

I don't believe most of us are criticizing yunz (the fans) for leavin' early as much as Bryce's comments.   Personally, I stay 'til the end.    Most Nats' fans aren't that committed.

I usually stay through the end, but that's because I've come down from NY sometimes for the sole purpose of seeing a game.

I think that's true of most sports.  If it was only dedicated fans who went to the games then they would t draw a million a year. It's an outing for most people.

There's no denying that the more passionate fans are the ones who are going to stay all 9+ innings regardless of the score/chances, but Harper needs to realize that NOWHERE are all 40,000 or so fans in attendance diehards.

To call out those casual fans in a way that is attacking all the fans is classless and insulting.  He put all the fans under one umbrella and then used that as an excuse for the dreadful performance on the field today.  It's true that having a loud, into it crowd can motivate a ball club, but they should be able to motivate themselves first.  You can't rely on fans to win games.  Look at the Pirates last year in the postseason.  Home field advantage, great passionate sold-out crowd...and they were still shut out 8-0.  You have to take personal responsiblity.

The fans didn't make you K (almost) every at bat, Harper.  You did.

I'm not turning on Bryce because of some stupid comments he made after what had to be an incredibly depressing day watching his playoff hopes fade away for another year :(  His team scored 5 runs with their ace on the mound-how crushing it must've been to see it all fall apart.  Bryce has been the MVP of this team all year and has come through way more often than not; I can't knock him for having an off day today.  He is probably well aware his MVP season has been wasted on a team with not enough talent and a crappy manager who doesn't know what the hell he's doing 99%, I'm frustrated as hell so I can only imagine how he feels.

I don't think folks are turning on him.    I recall an adage, "Wisdom is knowing when to shut up."   He'll learn.

He really needs to get a big knock, or even take Harvey deep. Whenever he faces Harvey, it feels like an automatic 0-4. Something big like that in the first inning could swing things in a big way. It just seems like he's done for when Harvey is on the bump.

U know what's "brutal"? Swinging 2-0 at what likely was Ball 3 in 9th inning with tying run on deck to play hero ball or pad stats #Natitude

Pad stats?  That's what he thinks Bryce was worried about?  Didn't Joel Sherman write for that rag the NY Post, and now he's trying to say he knows what Bryce was thinking?  How many times has New Yorker Joel Sherman ever had a freaking conversation with Bryce, but he knows he was trying to play "hero"?  Joel Sherman can go freak himself, I hope Bryce hits the ball so hard it smacks Sherman in the face in the press box tomorrow

Somebody should ask Sherman how that Gomez/Flores trade is going, since that was his scoop.  NY Post trash will always be trash.

They're just happy for the distraction from Two-Faced Harvey, I hate wishing injury on anyone but it would be so Metsian to see him arm fall off tomorrow

Agreed on all counts.  I believe in staying to the end personally and always do, but it's none of my business what other fans do.  We actually left our upper deck seats to take the escalator down to watch the ninth from behind the left field seats, so if Bryce looked up at the end of the 8th, he would have seen our seats empty (even though we were still watching the game there).  I believe in loyalty to your team, but in defense of those who left early, there was almost nothing to cheer about after the 4th inning, sadly.
