Walter Johnson had incredibly long arms. No wonder he generated so much speed on his fastball.

Yes. That's what I've always thought, as well. Shirley Povich, who covered Johnson from 1924, described Johnson as having a whip-like motion. Hank Thomas, Walter's grandson and author of the great biography, says that Johnson also had and used a curve-ball. In Game 7, 1924, when Johnson pitched the last four inning (5 K's) on short rest, a couple of the strikeouts were on Johnson's curve. He didn't just over-power hitters...but the combination must have been tough!

Right now, the Nats have extra starting pitchers, having found Ross and re-discovered Roark. Not enough field players. Maybe an extra day helps Harper? Maybe treatment helps Span? Any mention of Ryan Zimmerman lately?

Now the position players they do have all have to play a double-header.

From Yahoo Fantasy Baseball Updates:

Thu, Jun 25

Ryan Zimmerman (foot) took 25 swings off a tee on Wednesday.

Advice: He was also able to take throws at first base and walk on a treadmill as he continues his recovery from plantar fasciitis. He'll require a minor league rehab assignment before rejoining the Nationals which puts a potential return at some point in mid-July.

Yeah, the Phillies gamesmanship with starting the game to waste Gio's start may have backfired on them.

Really depends on how the pitching goes come game 2. It's imperative Stephen keeps us out of the pen today.

The White Sox and Tigers had a rainout yesterday but they play their makeup in September.  Someone needs to ask someone if playing in September was an option, why they're playing a doubleheader today.

Only off day in Sept. that matched up was the 28th after the two teams meet in DC. Travel day for both teams.

I'm done with Wilson Ramos. The guy has never become what he has flashed. Frankly, I think he's hurt. Absolutely no pop. Poor pitch framing. Can't hang on to the ball.

Good ol' TBD. Could be one of the Taylors (Hill or Jordan) or perhaps Roark.

Agreed. If you aren't going to be a productive bat--get someone who plays defense.

And that's when the doubleheader should have been.  One of those days.  Let me make it clear, the Tigers-White Sox game is part of a doubleheader in September, not an open day between the teams.  We have to play in Phil in Sept.  We need to know why the Tigers-White Sox can schedule their DH for September but the Nationals are stuck playing theirs today, with all of these injuries.
