I didn't know you were an old timer. Help the kids out and give them a name or two.

It's still a hot topic with certain elements.    :)

I didn't know you were an old timer.

How could you possibly not have know that?

Anyway,  On Kol Nidre 1970,  Bob Short traded nearly the entire Senator team  for Denny MacLain.

More accurately:
10-09-1970: McLain Traded by Detroit Tigers (with Don Wert, Norm McRae and Elliott Maddox) to Washington Senators for Ed Brinkman, Aurelio Rodriguez, Joe Coleman and Jim Hannan.

Wert, McRae and Maddox were of zero value.  Brinkman and Rodriguez were the pride and joy of the Senators  (well, along with Howard and Bosman); Coleman was a near-ace, and won 20 in '71 for the Tigers, and Jim Hannan was a darn good relief pitcher.    McLain lost 22 in  '71.

That trade, far as I'm concerned, was a major factor in the loss of the team to texas.

Nats Arms Race notes that Corey Brown is out of options, probably DFA candidate but could get claimed

That Josh Willingham trade looks better and better! #stillbitter

I did not remember Kol Nidre night but I boycotted the Senators the following year ( which was their last here) so you could say that I was sitting "shiva".

Maddux went on to play CF for the Yankees if I recall.

Did I meet you the year before last with TomTerp on opening day?

I met Eddie Brinkman at a wedding in the early '90's.    Family members had a good chat over a few beers.   I told him then that there were people in DC at that time who were still pissed about that trade.    He got a good laugh out of that.   I'm pretty sure I wasn't the first one to tell him.

Reason I remember it was Kol Nidre is, I was driving to synagogue that evening when I heard about it on the radio.   I got so hysterically angry that I skipped out on the service and went and got drunk.

No, I haven't had the privilege yet of meeting Tom (have spoken by phone and exchanged emails). We did have  a "date" scheduled several years ago (it was at RFK) but it didn't work out.

I was there during that series.    May have had a beer with ya.   I was looking at some pictures I had taken and we faced Fister (the rainout makeup I believe  ...   May 9?).

But the Senators moved to Texas and became the Rangers. Which means they swindled the Rangers.

I would be satisfied with a Desmond and a Fister/Zimmermann extension to round out the offseason deals.

I'm interested to see what is done about lefty reliever as well.

At the very least, Boone Logan, Eric O'Flaherty and a backup catcher.

Sure as hell didn't like what LaRoche said on the radio today. He's not in shape but he's hunting. That means he'll suck in April again. Please trade him. His slumps have grown tiresome.
