Interesting question.  Is it time to think about shifting Werth to first or left?

Harper may have a bigger arm and is faster at this point. Left probably has less wear and tear. Werth is a below average outfielder the past few years by most advanced metrics but still has a decent enough arm.   I think right is he toughest outfield area in Nats Park.  I don't think I've seen anyone look good out there.  I think it is the high wall and lights from the scoreboard that interferes with peripheral vision of the outfielders, but I have not seen any data.  Maybe the left right swap makes some sense.

I get a little worried about pulling Werth out of the outfield unless we are confident that RZ can stay at 3d for the next 4 years (through 2017).  Heck, more than a few of us aren't confident he can play there in 2014.

I've got my doubts about Zim at 3B and Rendon at 2B, but barring a trade for Howie Kendrick or a steal on Cano, I don't see 2nd or 3rd getting upgraded.

What is this trade for Kenderick stuff? Angels clearly have money and KlKenderick isn't exactly pricey

FA arms suck and they have a decent enough prospect in Grant Green to fill the void.  Essentially they view that in order to get good pitching, they need to trade someone like Kendrick.

Nats actually having pitching depth now, somehow.  Puts the Nats in a similar situation like they were in when they acquired Gio.

Unless we're offering Jordan Zimmermann,  the Angels won't be interested

Only with signings. They ain't giving up Howie Kenderick for Taylor Jordan, Ross Detwiler, or Nathan Karns.

I guess. This is the guy who, while he was the interim GM in Arizona, managed to get Patrick Corbin and Tyler Skaggs from his current team for Dan Haren.

Gotta think .298/.349/.456 career pinch hitter.
Just playing devils advocate. It seems like kind of an odd thing to do, bring back the guy who was the odd man out (who was a great clubhouse guy) after a great season in the hopes that he brings some of that good fortune back.

I like the idea of Morse as a first guy off the bench, 4th outfielder, backup 1st baseman.  But they mentioned on Nats Talk this morning that he will probably have to take an incentive laden contract this offseason and therefore he'll want to go someplace where he'll be a regular starter.  Makes sense to me.

The biggest thing I'd like to see is Rizzo dumping Soriano to someone who will pay most of his salary and signing a Fernando Rodney, Rafael Betancourt, Joe Nathan, Joquin Benoit. Or another setup man and let Clippard close finally. Also a legit lefty like Scott Downs, JP Howell, or Matt Thornton.

Except he's shown that he needs steady at bats to be effective. It takes him a while to keep going.

Look, we bring him and play him at first, if Zimmerman can be effective at third, and mitigate his injury chances. Do we think Laroche will repeat 2012 or 2013? What about Morse?

Doubtful that Soriano is going anywhere, his performance wasn't what was expected based on his contract but he's still better than most closers and we won't get enough value in return to consider dumping his contract.

I'd much rather dump Soriano and suck up the money. Sign O'Flaherty to set up. Combine him with Cedano and Krol and we have some good lefties, like in 2012.

Clippard
O'Flaherty
Clippard
Kroll
Cedano
Stammen
Roark
Open spot (maybe)

Gives us quite a bit. Also think Stammen, Mattheus, and Roark/Karns/Storen become trade chips.

what was O'Flaherty's injury?  I'm wary of shoulders.

Tommy John.

I'd see if the Nats could make a package for Jake McGee.  I expect to see either Cedeno or Abad next year, maybe even both if Krol is deemed not ready.  I think starter wise the Nats are probably fine with a rotation of Stras, Gio, JZimm, Det and Roark with TJordan, Karns and possibly even Cole to step up into a spot if injury occurs.

Maybe go with Kendrys Morales at 1B and sign Rodney to short deal.  I think the Nats could find homes for Soriano and LaRoche.  I think trading Hairston and letting Walters play as a bench bat is smart too.

O'Flaherty will be ready to pitch MLB innings by May of 2014. Even if it were a one year deal, it would be worth it.

You wonder though, with TJ command comes back slower than velocity, so how will his effectiveness be?

How was Strasburg's? TJS is what we do best. By May he'd be ready to pitch.

It's been interesting seeing all the homeless Cano talk flying around out there currently.  I think he will take until January to sign at least but what is interesting s the lack of suitors.

Given the price he wants, I guess it is to be expected.  Also I don't know if I'm buying the Dodgers not willng to spend but with 163 million on the books and Kershaw not extended could squash their means.

The other big pocket teams are locked up (Angels, Phillies, Red Sox) and I don't expect teams like the Jays to go very long on a deal.  It really would be Detroit, Texas, the Yankees and the Nats.  Maybe the Cubs pull a Jayson Werth deal but after the Crawford contract I'm not sure Theo goes there.

I don't want to work myself up like I did with Fielder, but damn it would be nice to have Cano's bat hitting 3rd in the lineup.

I think the Dodgers get Cano. I think they dump Either or Kemp and grab Cano.

I don't want Cano for the price. That's an ARod/Pujols contract. Even if Cano has 5 years left of good production, it's not enough for a 10/250+ deal. That pretty much guarantees that Harper or Strasburg walk.

My offseason wants are Girardi, Cano and Jake McGee.  If not McGee than Brett Cecil.

I wouldn't mind getting kemp if the dodgers are willing to trade him.  We could put either him or werth at 1st.

He'd be very expensive.  Not worth what we'd give up to fill a need we don't have.
