So now that the bcs is done,  I think it's safe to call college football a southern sport,  since it started in 1998, only two non southern schools, Oklahoma in 2000 and Ohio state * in 2002, have won- that's an absurd record

That freaking ref gave OSU that game.

His second interview was just as bad. Someone should work with him on interviews.

He's a sophomore too. That FSU education is really showing.

Yeah... you see AJ McCarron's mom tweeted "Am I listening to english?"

It got deleted quick... but oh boy.

:lmao:  In this politically correct climate it's probably wise to delete it but funny as hell.

Yeah. She's getting a lot of crap over it.

Funny though, as you said.

Winston showed major balls hanging in there tonight. That touchdown before the half ended was huge for them. People are killing this kid on Twitter about his poor grammar...I guess after winning everything you possibly can in a season that's what it comes down to. So what if he doesn't give a good interview? Everyone has their faults.

Winston sounds fairly articulate at the podium. Regarding the on-field interview, he had just won a nail biter for that championship, I can understand if maybe his thoughts were a little jumbled at that moment.  AJ's mom maybe wasn't sure what English sounds like, being from Alabama and all.

Winston was born in Alabama as well.

Is California considered a southern state? USC won a title.

Maybe it's Steelers' fans of a certain age.    I wasn't raised on the towel.   It's kind of a late fad thing to me.   It started out like Franco's Italian Army and the like.    Then it became Myron Cope's towel for charity.    That's a good cause but it's publicity more than sentimental for me.     Personal preference I guess.
Steelers and Cope I don't mind. It was original then.  I hate towels in baseball, especially white ones.  Back in the home country, we refer to them as crying towels or surrender towels since the Cards and the Rockies fans thought they were cool in the world series recently.  I loved it in 2007 when the Ravens handed out white ones on the Monday night when the Pats played in B'more.  i saved it and used it as a doormat at the office.

even if you include them, the domination by the south is pretty insane- 13 out of 16 teams from the south- the state of Alabama has as many championships than the Big 10, Pac 12 and Big 12 combined

Not sure if it's an urban legend but a while back Michigan visited Northwestern.    The Wildcat student body started a cheer that essentially was  ...  you may beat us in football but someday you'll work for us.

UVA students chanted that at one UMD game. "That's all right, that's okay, you're gonna work for us one day!"

Then a group of UMD students from Long Island beat their Frat boy @sses in the parking lot. True story.  :)

yeah thats a pretty common cheer. my HS would do that to all the lesser schools we'd play (i.e., all of our opponents)

30 years ago it pissed people off, and UMD was a different school than it is now.  :)

Big chant at Ivy games is "safety school."  That, and "harass them, harass them, make them relinquish the ball."  Actually, the last one is not done all that much.  Nor is "die you gravy sucking pigs," which I managed to start at a few basketball games back when Steve Martin was getting his start.

Did anyone hear the comments Red McCombs made about Texas hiring Charlie Strong?
