If they still talk to Franklin today, I'm wonder if they are thinking OC?

Would you hire Gruden (an up and coming OC) and then saddle him with an OC he isn't familiar with?

No. It's McVay.

Yeah, the chatter is McVay promoted to OC and they (Bruce and Jay Gruden) are going to ponder on Haslett or Morris for DC

Morris would make it an all under John in Tampa staff for the three main spots

I just heard Haslett may remain DC.
Looks like the is for sure happening.

I have never in my life seen a team as bad as the Redskins defensively decide to go ahead and keep the defensive coordinator through a coaching change.

I was on board with the Gruden hire and I am sure he'll win the press conference, but hiring a first time NFL head coach and keeping previous coaches as coordinators is so disappointing.

What??? Me, Redskins head coach???

It's Gruden for head coach: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/jay-gruden-hired-as-redskins-coach/2014/01/09/084fab48-7938-11e3-8963-b4b654bcc9b2_story.html?hpid=z2

...and ultimately it doesn't matter...Daniel Snyder is still the owner.

Perhaps you can coach the US rugby team. Lord knows, they wouldn't suck any more

Anyway, I don't like this hire. Gruden runs a West Coast offense. Pretty much the opposite of what RGIII needs. Haslett sucks and should be gone.

My mom's reaction to the Gruden signing: "He's a brave man, or mighty stupid."

I like this whole situation since I am not a Redskins fan.  If I was  redksins fan, I would wonder why would they keep Haslett as DC given the track record of the past 4 years.  And then have a guy on his defensive staff (Morris) who has ties to both Allen and Gruden.  One report said Morris would have a bigger role but Haslett would be the DC--what does that mean.  Unclear lines of authority seem to be a Snyder specialty.

I like the Gruden hire, but I don't like retaining Haslett/Morris.

If they abandon Haslett, would they go back to a 4-3 defense?

Don't have the personnel for that in my opinion.

4-3 was Shanny's decision, right? Haslett was brought here because he knew about it?  Hell, he might have wondered why Washington was running it with the personnel we had.

The Eagles went to a 3-4 this past year without having the personnel necessarily.  They had problems but probably would have even in a 4-3.  Neither system is perfect; go with one and then bring in personnel to fit.  The new coach needs to be making these decisions.

Third option: Wants to get paid.

Shanny wanted to go to a 3-4.

It was Shanahan's decision. Haslett had some exposure to it because he worked for the steelers for a spell in the 90's but everywhere else he was DC and when he was head coach he always preferred the 4-3. I'm interested to find out if they will go back to the 4-3 because three years later they still don't have the correct 3-4 personnel. They are somewhere in the middle but I believe not having a true NT is critical plus they are also short an ILB now that Fletcher is retiring.

Snyder is sitting in the audience for the press conference. He's trying desperately to show he isn't meddling.  :lmao:

Is it just me, or does Allen sound a little dim?
