After the success of our President's Day 2023 trip to Baltimore, my wife demanded we take another trip to somewhere within 3 hours of Arlington for MLK Weekend 2024 with our 5 year old. We picked Philadelphia.
To save money, we stayed not in Philadelphia but in Chester County. This was actually a stroke of genius because we had access to both Philadelphia and Wilmington and could visit either city as we pleased, or even both in one day. On Saturday we did a museum in Philadelphia in the morning, had a genuine Philly cheesesteak (with whiz) for lunch, and got to Wilmington in plenty of time to do duckpin bowling.
We've visited both the Philadelphia Children's Museum (now seemingly world famous after rebranding as the "Please Touch Museum" - every parent we know from the DC area has taken their kids there) and the Delaware Children's Museum in Wilmington. The Philly museum is objectively better but I honestly feel we got better value per dollar at the Delaware one. There are more wall decals of Bryce Harper at the Delaware museum (1) than at the Philly one - Bryce's picture for whatever reason adorns the speed pitch machine there.
Tomorrow we drive back to Arlington, ideally before the snow. We'll do the Delaware Museum of Nature and History on the way home.
