Summer has the long days and nice weather.  September is a great time of year in terms of being off-peak but still pleasant.

It never gets hot there.  People act like they are dying when it is over 78F.
Awesome....It seems like that on paper, but great to have real life testimony

So what time(s) of year would be best for this train excusion?

September fits in great...will there be snow in the mountains then?

The ferry out to Victoria / Vancouver Island is a great trip and a wonderful place to visit.

Oh yeah, the food supply improved markedly once the US was in the war.  Guadalcanal?

My old man was in Prince Rupert in '42/43 on his way to the S. Pacific.    :)

Went to DC for the week last week.  Zoo lights, Smithsonian, walking around the city.

Now my kids all want to move to DC.

:)

We hit the Newseum last week, always an enjoyable experience even with the crowds.  Afterwards we walked over the Canadian embassy next door and looked at the tree outside.  We left after some nut was in the courtyard next door screaming 'bring it all down' over and over again.

We're planning on heading out to LA in July to see the Nats play the Angels and visit my in-laws.  We're looking at air fares now.  My mother in law is a huge Angels fan, so it's always fun to trash talk with an 89 year old.  We've already warned her about Danny K.

Look into flying into Orange County John Wayne if you can, much easier airport to get around.

I am loving retirement so far.  So cool to go to the gym and the stores in the middle of the day when they're not crowded.  Even the floor clerks at Best Buy were friendly and helpful today - usually you can't find any sign of those guys when you go on the weekend.

Been to LA many times including a trip to Dodger stadium back in 1997. I enjoy it but wouldn't want to live there. One highlight was winning a contest to have a free trip and stay in Santa Monica with my son including free center court tickets to the Shaq-Kobe Lakers. Think it was 2001. President Days weekend. Weather was terrible but we had a great time.

We've used Midgett lately and like them best but not sure how strong they are on that area.  We stay between South Nags Head and Salvo usually, often Waves or Rodanthe.

You have to be careful price comparing because some charge much greater fees than other realty offices.

Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet?

We love staying in South Nags Head - close to everything but without being subject to the noise and congestion.  BUT, the beaches have eroded significantly in places so you always got to check the aerial view before committing.  Good idea for any place down there, actually.

I think it would be wise for those of us who travel abroad a lot (I have three foreign trips booked for the remainder of this year) to keep our ears to the ground about entry requirements...I could easily see other countries, including longtime allies of the US, slapping visa requirements on American travelers...

There's a discussion in the politics thread in uncensored regarding the reports of the call with the Aussie PM.  Let's try to keep political discussions out of the Red Loft and the baseball threads.  However, OC's general point about the need to follow changes in entry requirements in travel destinations and for returning to the US is probably prudent.

Ah, so that's the type of stuff that happens in uncensored.
