Let's have a vote as to how many people were like him? Let's raise our hands?

I was worse.

If harper is on the opening day 25 man roster, then I'm going to talk to Mr. Burns about putting up that shield he used to block the Sun.  so watch it or your avi is toast!

Seriously, we care this much about someone who doesn't even own a home in DC yet??

I do not know many bandwagon fans in my (mostly freshman) college dorm. Harper is older than me, he should have more "awareness", no? Don't underestimate a 19 year old, he isn't 12.

You really need to lighten up. Kid grew up in a place that has no hometown team so he picked the teams that were winning when he was a kid. Who cares? This seriously offends you this much? He's stuck with the same teams since he was a kid (as far as I know), I can respect that.

If he had become a fake Caps/Redskins/Wizards fan as soon as he signed here, that's closer to what you described earlier than what he actually is. Then when he goes to New York, he can be a Rangers/Yankees/Knicks fan, and then when he ends up somewhere else, he can love their teams too!

This is seriously the dumbest argument ever.

You clearly did not read my other posts. I dont have a problem with him not liking dc teams, I have a problem with him not liking California teams.

I don't give a damn who he likes, my problem is with the way he says things.  "Oh he's only 19, he's just a kid!"  All the more reason he needs to have some PR coaching and a "handler" to teach him.

Now I can agree with that. While it's true he's only 19, there's no reason he shouldn't have someone around to provide "guidance" in those areas. A month or so in AAA might be just what the doctor ordered.

Why should he like California teams? He's from Las Vegas.

I agree. He needs some PR training, big time. I wonder if the Nats have given him any. I hope they've at least had a few sessions.

There are no major league teams in Nevada, that's true.  But UNLV has a team. And why not the Angels? What bothers me just a little is that he is a fan of the biggest/brightest/flashiest teams only. I think that says something. I'm just not sure what. :?

Growing up as a kid with no hometown teams, i feel like it's somewhat natural for a kid to become a fan of whatever teams are most often on TV/most successful.

And maybe his parents didn't attend college either,so no influence there. Still. It just seems... pre-determined. Like maybe by his father. I don't know.

I'm not hard over on this. I don't expect him to be a Nat for very long.

i think we'll see harper at a caps game once he's actually spending time in DC because he's a full-time major leaguer

That's totally fine. Gio is doing everything right, setting a good example, that's all I'm saying. Bryce can pay attention to him and Zim and he'll be fine.

Wowwwwww. You're bringing in a whole new level of nothing to this topic. So what you're saying is that since Bryce doesn't like any other DC sports team, everyone on the team will judge him negatively for it?

And "you were more mature because you kept your mouth shut" has nothing to do with sports. If you kept your mouth shut about gossip, drama, and other things then I understand, you are correct there. But saying that you are mature for not talking about sports is a bit silly. Trash talking is a part of sports. It seems like the only acceptable topic of discussion for trash talking. (if that is what you are inferring)

I think he was implying, actually.  You are the one inferring.

You obviously don't get what it's like being a 19 year old with broad opinions being on a national stage and also have the added advantage of the technical world in front of you.  Plenty of young people do this.  Bryce is being exactly what he is, a typical 19 year old.  He just happens to be in a 19 year old in the national spotlight with every twitter reading d'bag microscopically tearing apart everything he does.  I read twitter and I follow Bryce.  I'm nearly 24 and I get it.  He is trying to act his age because that is what his peers are doing and sometimes you have to let a kid act like a kid.  Just because he has a professional career does not mean you can look at others who are playing the game and treat him like that.

What I mean is don't treat a 19 year old like a 30 year old which seems to be the average MLB player age.

I'm 18, and I know how to not appear to be a fool in front of national media (in the incredibly unlikely event that I find myself in such a position).

I agree. Once Bryce is here and sees how he's supposed to act, I think he'll pick it up.

My opinion on the matter is that I don't care so much that Harper is a Cowboys/Yankees/frontrunner fan so much as his decision to "flaunt" it. You should have a certain knowledge of how the media will twist what you say and how your target audience (in his case, DC fans) will perceive it. What good can come out making a big deal out of this? Very little, if any. It's just poor publicity, as demonstrated by the fact that we have an 8 page thread on this in like 24 hours. Not very intelligent on his part... and no, I don't give him a pass for being 19.

There are lots of examples of full-grown men forgetting that Twitter is not "public" media. Isn't how Representative Wiener got snagged?

One of Harper's tweets was something to the affect of "Hey, i got 22 thousand responses, so that's cool" or something like that. People think of these things differently.

I'm not liking this guy much, but as long as he comes here and clubs the crap out of the ball, I'll be fine about him.

Twitter is a craphole.  It's good for following the media for breaking news in the offseason, but other than that, I don't get the point.
