So the Mariners are probably out now.  Down to DC and Texas and maybe Toronto and Baltimore.  If Oswalt comes off the market some time in the next few days, I think the chances go up that the Rangers sign Darvish.  Unless Oswalt signs in Texas, in which case they migh sign Fielder and let Darvish go back to Japan.

1 year ban for me if O's sign Fielder

then why are you saying that morse is more valuable than gardner

What is so hard to understand?  I think he is more valuable than Gardner but not valuable enough to get both of those guys.  The Yanks really like Betances from what I have read.  Probably Gardner and a lower prospect.

This is starting to feel like Teixeira.  A lot.

He signs with the Yankees on Tuesday.

Yankees are starting to look at Pena after making the trade and the Kuroda signing, per MLBTR.  So, it looks like they are still passing on Fielder.

Dart is Dallas' public transportation. No lines to Arlington, only the TRE from Ft. Worth to Dallas. The Mayor of Arlington has argued against public transportation, on the grounds that it would 'bus in trouble'... Gotta love it

Gotcha, I was in Dallas mode mentally because I lived there two years.  It was a pain getting to the ballpark during rush hour.  Tons of traffic headed back to Ft. Worth and surrounds out of the Dallas area.

If Pena comes off the market and goes to the Yanks, that should improve a potential trade market for LaRoche.

We have Prince and Boras by the short ones....we have the leverage....settle in boys we are going to grind this one out but it's because we know we're the only game in town...

That's the strategy, but there's always the mystery team issue....

But I do like that all the big boys - Yanks, Philly, Sawx, Angels, etc have their 1st base locked up.  Terrible time for PF to hit the market, so if we get him great and get him cheap all the better.

Prince Fielder Rumors: Saturday
By Steve Adams [January 14 at 10:47am CST]

Yesterday it was reported that the Cubs aren't out on Prince Fielder, despite acquiring Anthony Rizzo. Fielder met with the Rangers, who, along with the Nationals and Cubs, could offer a six-year contract with an average annual value in the $22-24MM range. Fielder and Yu Darvish may not be mutually exclusive for Texas, but they may need to choose whether to invest in Fielder or Josh Hamilton long-term. Here are today's rumors:

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel tweets that the Rangers were impressed with how trim and fit Fielder looked in their meeting yesterday.
Nolan Ryan says the Rangers' meeting with Fielder yesterday was just to see where he was at in the free agent process, tweets Anthony Andro of FOX Sports Southwest. Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram also tweets that the talks were preliminary.

latest from MLBTR

I like how it seems like two teams being mentioned alot (Cubs and Rangers) have other things to worry about but are still in talks for Fielder because the Nationals, who really have nothing blocking them anymore, haven't done anything. I don't want us to overpay though, but it just seems funny.

I think the Nats made a fair market offer given the market at that point in time. If the competition heats up, and they still want to be in on it, they can make a bigger offer. Making too big an offer (like they did for Werth) when there was no competition would make them look like Patsies. Like the Redskins. Come to Washington, get paid, under-perform. Not the message the front office wants to be sending, I don't think.

And since we are the Washington Boras, any offer the Rangers make, I'm sure we would get a chance to beat it.

Are you saying you will ban yourself for a year or are you proposing a one year ban for hammonds?

And since we are the Washington Boras, any offer the Rangers make, I'm sure we would get a chance to beat it.

At which point Lerner says no thanks and exhales with relief because he gets credit for "showing the willingness to spend" without actually having to spend.

You mean, get the chance to come in second place.  Spend or get the fook out.
