Who is skeptical at Darvish signing?  I think I have read one report in the last two weeks that was remotely cynical on Darvish signing while reading just about every other insider saying they would be surprised if he didn't.  At this point I would be shocked if they didn't agree.

I don't think this is a Darvish issue at all.  I think it's that the Nats have given Boras multiple offers & none of them are in the 9 or 10 year range that he wanted.  Now there seems to be no team that is willing to give him anywhere near want he wants (and what he promised Fielder) and he's trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat.  He's done it before so maybe he'll do it again but my guess is he'll end up settling for much less than he hoped for.

My biggest fear is that at the end some other team will swoop in and pay more than we're offering but still get a great deal.  Something like 7 years at 24/year while we're at 6/24.  I'll be pissed if that happens.

If Texas can get Oswalt for $8 mil and Prince for $20 mil, they might prefer that to Darvish.  So maybe the holdup is Darvish.

How quickly we've forgotten that we're the fat woman that only gets action at last call when all else has failed and the vision is blurred.

The difference is we're not some huge fat chick anymore.  Now instead of a 1 or a 2, we're a respectable 5 or 6.  The chick who you'd actually be friends with but still wouldn't go near unless you had too much to drink.

I respectfully disagree.  I don't think they bid 51+M only to give up on him and sign Roy Oswalt for a year.  They need a stud and were willing to let CJ Wilson go so that they could get him.

Texas was #3 in runs scored.  They need pitching IMO

This does not feel like blowing smoke, this really sounds like we are going to end up with Prince. As a die-hard Nats fan who has been through years of agony, I am elated and can't wait to watch the team play meaningful baseball.

If that was the Rangers choice, there's nothing they have to wait for.

Or like the 5 or 6 that you'd be.friends with but, with a little work, could be a 7 or 8

They could have been waiting for Oswalt's price to drop.  Which it may now have done.

They do have to make a pretense of trying to sign him. Otherwise they look like the bad guys.

"wouldn't go near" is pretty strong language for a 6...

I think we've all done much more than 'go near' a 6 or lower before.

Right.

Right?

Wouldn't be shocked if they end up with both.

Maybe this will teach the Nats to not drag their feet if something happens with the Rangers.

if they sign him for 6/150 or less, i'll be pissed.  If they sign him for anything more than that, good luck Texas.

Well that would be fitting as a fan of the Nationals to have him swept out from under us.  It's our lot in life I guess.

How much you want to bet that the Rangers sign Darvish & Fielder and then turn around and resign Josh Hamilton AND Ian Kinsler (FA in 13')?  I bet somehow their writers are trying to explain how they can't sign their best players because they would have too much money tied up in a few players.

I'm not particularly concerned.

Boras (imo) is just trying to turn up the pressure.

Thats all.

Hopefully, both Boras and the Rangers are turning up the pressure on the Nats/Darvish

Yeah. Normally I'd be panicking but I just see this as A) a pressure move by Rangers to talk with Darvish and B) a pressure move by Boras.

Like Linty said, though, I wouldn't be surprised if we failed and they end up with both. It'd really suck.

Texas won't do anything on Fielder until after Darvish. I'm sure they're interested in Prince and are just looking into his demands in the event they don't sign Darvish.

Not that bad. In five years they'll be the Cubs. And we'll be contenders.
