Fwiw, Espinosa could also be the "mystery player".

Another Boras client....

Zimmerman is the mystery player.  I'm sure of it.

Wow, I just got home from work and honestly that is the warmest welcome I have ever gotten.  I posted in the LEGO thread and I'm interested to see what you come up with!

Gotta be Werth. I'm sure he was told all kinds of stuff about "The Plan" before he signed here, so he's probably being fed that we're in on Fielder now. It's just a matter of whether this is for appearances.

I'm now convinced that the only thing holding up Prince is HOF Rizzo's wheeling and dealing with Morse and Desmond to get the CF and/or leadoff hitter needed.

I feel like its Gio or Werth. I think Gio because we were probably talking to him before the trade. Rizzo may have told him about Fielder, which is why I think his statements about being traded were so ecstatic. Pretty much the same thing with Werth.

However, this is all null if Fielder doesn't sign here and I don't want to believe stupid stuff like this until it happens.

Was the HOF reference serious or a joke?

The HOF moniker cuts both ways for me. For Rizzo, it depends on which way the wind is blowing, though I did call him an "infidel puppet" recently.

One thing about having the old man negotiate directly with Boras is that we should have a decision soon, Lerner isn't likely to want to drag this thing out for weeks.  Maybe even today before breaking for the long weekend.

I was in favor of spending the money on CF, but now that we appear to have moved away from that idea, let's get the big man.

Don't know about you guys but this sentence brought a smile to my face.

The latest thinking is that we are moving away from going after a CF *this year" and waiting for the CF FA class of next year (Victorino, Upton, Bourne, etc.). The money we save from not signing Prince (and I'm against it) this year would be spent next year.

Where was the money spent saved in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 spent?

The ghost of the Werth signing is still spooking teams. LAO.

It will be spent when they are ready to win. They started with Werth and soon it will be Zimmerman extension, Morse, etc.

Classic LANC argument. I'm bored with it even as I type it.

Why did they decide they weren't willing to try to win in '09, '10 or '11?

The were rebuilding in those years. Winning in the short term was not the priority. Now it is. They will build their payroll as the team matures.

Adjusted for inflation has the payroll increased any since they've bought the team?  I'd wager the answer there is no and, barring something like a Fielder signing, it's not going to even as they pay arbitration for applicable players.  Someone will be eating a turd sandwich, however, if Ryan Zimmerman isn't extended and it won't be me.

They will spend on more payroll as the team matures. Standard practice and they will follow.

And if they don't extend Zimmerman, I will not slit my wrists (or eat a turd sandwich). I will evaluate the situation at that time and see. It might make sense to trade him. The Rangers traded Tex and last time I looked they've won the AL pennant the last two years.

And just so you don't come after me with pitchforks, I do want Zimm to be re-signed. I just don't think it's the apocalypse if he isn't.
