Why should a government have any role in trying to block a willing seller and willing buyer from making a mutually beneficial transaction?  I'm not sure I see the harm in allowing a secondary market.

Because if they can't get their cut of it, they don't want it going on...

The idea of the government wanting a share is not the reason here.  There's a lot of fraud going on with fake tickets.  The possibility (or probability) of such fraud means law enforcement has to step in.  The government is trying to protect citizens from illegal activity.

If they wanted to prevent fraud they could put scanners outside the park so that you can verify that the tix are active before making the purchase.

I just wrote a letter to the NATIONALS regarding Metro and covering the cost of overtime if the game is delayed due to rain:

Dear

My ticket rep gave me your email address as to the person to write about fan issues.  Well the issue I want to talk about is one that raised its ugly head last Postseason!  It is the issue of who will pay for Metro to stay open later when games run late?  I know ESPECIALLY DURING PostSeason games it was a serious issue because the games start after 8pm and could run past the 11:30 Navy Yard closing time.  HOWEVER, we have another issue right NOW!

As you can tell, the DC area weather is very unpredictable.  Storms can pass us by but they can also come down in a sudden DOWNPOUR delaying the game for an hour, sometimes 2 HOURS and yes sometimes even 3 hours!  Now these types of delays can come BEFORE AND/OR DURING GAMES.  I already went to one game where I had to leave in the 8th inning because the game was delayed an hour at the start due to rain.  In order to make it to Metro by 11:30, dodge crowds and possibly miss one train and have to wait 20 minutes for the next; My friend and I had to leave in the 8TH INNING.  Home runs were being hit and we had to miss it.  Many other NATS fans had to miss the last inning and a half too!

It really frustrates me to no end that when we come to the ballpark to watch a NATS game ON A WEEKNIGHT!; that I have to worry about what inning I have to get up and leave to make the Metro and all my connections in time to get back to Vienna.  The friend I share  my season tickets with lives in Germantown and must get back to Shady Grove.  If we miss the last METRO train on a weeknight, A cab would cost us a small fortune to get back to our respective areas!  Not to mention the difficulty of getting one in that neighborhood at that late hour of the evening.  As SOME FANS learned the hard way last year; it is not beyond anyone's comprehension that an organization would leave it's fans stranded in Southeast DC.  IT HAPPENED LAST YEAR!

Personally, I think the Lerners should put down a deposit whenever there is a rain delay.  I know this goes against the grain of the owners because possibly they never had to pay before, but DC is unusual in that it's system DOES NOT RUN ALL NIGHT on WEEKNIGHTS!  It closes at Midnight with last trains leaving before that time.  I feel if the WASHINGTON NATIONALS CARED about THEIR FANS; they would put down a deposit so the half the 30K attending per night, doesn't have to worry about how they can watch the entire game and get home safe and sound with no worries about making the final metro train.

Rain is predicted tomorrow night.  THEREFORE ITS URGENT THAT THIS ISSUE BE ADDRESSED BEFORE ANOTHER RAINY WEEKDAY HOMESTAND!

I LOOK FORWARD TO THE ORGANIZATION'S RESPONSE!

RESPECTFULLY,

SEASON TICKET HOLDER

Good letter - I'm actually close to dropping my season ticket after this season, not because of anything the Nats are doing (I still love attending the matches) but because of this dysfunctional transit system and its endless trackwork, escalator replacements, fare increases etc....

But why should fans be harassed by the tickets scalpers ?  I think the DC law is needed.  I'm sure it's meant for the professional scalpers, not the individual with extra tickets.  Another way the Nats address scalping is they limit the number of $5 tickets to the number of people present when the tickets are purchased

When you go to a game are you harrased more by guys walking around asking for extra tickets...or the guys standing in my way before and after the game pushing cheap $5 hats in front of me?
And doesnt matter who the law is for -they are enforcing it to that avg Joe.  Not to mention - Why not just issue the ticket?  You have cops with paddy wagons taking people to jail? Yeah -Cause DC has no other issues where the police will be needed.

So, if it were legal activity, they wouldn't have to protect us from it, is that what you're saying?  If so, I agree!     8)

Terp - you're goofy.  There will always be scalpers trying to sell duplicated tickets multiple times, whether scalping is considered legal or not.

Thinking about bringing the family down for a game. I have a budget of $100 a ticket. Any sections I should look for or look to avoid, sight lines Etc.

That price will put you in the area behind the dugouts, first base has more hard core Nats fans, third base has the shade.

There aren't any really bad seats in the house, although there are some seats that will prevent you from seeing the outfield areas near the foul poles. Like PB said, $100 per will get you nice seats in the lower bowl. I can't take the sun much anymore, so I'd do 1B side for a night game, but 3B side for a day game.

bad seats in nats park are all a question of sun, other than that, it's a matter of how low you want to pay to be or if there are any particular amenities you want to be near

REAL GOOD seats are $60 or less (between the dugouts on the lower bowl).  Don't go for anyone selling seats for $100 each

Here's a thread with some discussion of the relative merits of the club vs infield seats

Depends on the row and the opponent.

Especially since he is a philly fan (he was helpful to me, at least) I would think if he wanted primo seats behind ther dugout $100 might not be out of the question.

Oh crap, I'm slipping.  Guess it didn't occur to me that Philly fans still wanted to come down here now that their team has tanked and they have plenty of cheap tickets available up there.

I imagine many of you have gone to the Gordon Biersch pregame.  I'm thinking of heading there before the game tomorrow to spend less time out in the sauna.  How insanely packed is it?  If I get there by 5:30 or so, do I have any chance of getting a seat at the bar or at a table?
