I like Ubaldo but a 4.20 ERA this year and since his hot start last year he's got around a 4 ERA. Meh. Not worth giving up some of our best guys.

He had a huge workload during his hot start. I have to wonder if that has something to do with his performance this year, not that it's terrible. At the same time, I'm suspicious why they are dealing him. I guess they think he's at peak value.

Also, the asking price is huge.

Look at his road splits. If we downgrade hitters' numbers for hitting in Coors have to upgrade pitchers' numbers.

Then again...

Wil Nieves traded to the Braves for cash considerations. Insurance while McCann is out I suppose. He'll split time with Ross.

Slateman are you accounting for the grade inflation for Yankees prospects?

Jimenez looked great against us (who doesn't, right?).  He was hitting 96 or 97 if I remember correctly.  He wasn't sitting there all night but he could hit that when he needed to

What inflation? Montero has been a top 15 prospect in baseball for almost three years. The B-Kings are quite talented as well. If they were on our team, they would be as legit as on the Yankees.

The Yankees only over pay their players. They can't get their prospects overrated.

He has touched 96, but he's averaging 93. In years past, 96 was the norm. Thats what bothers me.

I'm not overrating our guys. I'm just saying, I'm ok trading 4 for 1. 6 for 1 is too much. That's all of our 'upper level' talent. We wouldn't have anyone available in house to help the offense( via promotion or trade for a position player). Its just too much to give up. Its not that Ray or Solis are untouchable its just 6 for 1 is too much to give up.

Also, what Colorado wants for Ubaldo from NY doesn't really matter. What they're asking isn't what they'll get. They won't get all of the Yankees top talent.

Maybe they won't accept our proposal, but that's fine. He's not worth any more than that.

A package of Peacock, Norris, and Cole is a very good starting point for a front line pitcher. If not Ubaldo, then someone else.

I dunno.  Seems like prospects from certain teams like the Yankees and Red Sox are almost always overrated.  Could be mindfacting but I think that's a rather common perception.

I'd trade Clippard for Span if his concussion issues are a thing of the past.

Jimenez would be an amazing get.  I don't really see it happening.

It's too bad we couldn't swing a trade for a starter to flip to the Cards for Rasmus.  I still don't think it makes sense - maybe unless the GM was told, 'make the playoffs or else...' by ownership.

Montero is legit. He's destroying the ball. He's just a poor catcher. More than likely he'll move to first base. But the Yanks have Tex, so no place for him. I expect him to get called up in September. At the very least, he can DH.

Concussionsheal but the person who gets a concussion is always more susceptible to a concussion later on. However, concussions are probably the most researched injury in the last five years.

Can't imagine Storen for Span, unless they're sending a big prospect back. Hicks?

Clippard is more like it. Span is solid, but no star. And he's coming off the concussion. It's not the best time to move him, and you're not getting one of the best young closers in the game for him.

What makes Zach Wheeler so great?

http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=wheele001zac

21 yrs old in A+.  10k's a game but 5 walks.  Last year it was 11 and 6 in A ball.  WHIP was 1.45 last year and 1.375 this year.

Kind of sounds like a bullpen arm to me.  But I've never seen him so my opinion might not count for much.  Ha.

Jeez ... watching MLB Network now. They're talking about Span for Storen ... better be some other prospects involved

EDIT - I believe the Giants will also get a draft pick if they don't re-sign Beltran

It's nonsense spouted off the top of my head.

I highly doubt they trade Storen.

Well, if they do, then I guess we're even. We raped the Twins last year for Capps. They'll rape us for Storen

I like that we're interested in Peter Bourjos. Not a great bat but he is an amazing, amazing defensive center fielder.

Yeah.  Of the CFs listed most frequently, Span is the one I'd target, but Storen's been groomed to be a closer since college at a big-time university.  As good as Clippard's been, he's a converted (failed) starter.

Storen seems a bit much.

Unless we can flip Capps back to the Twins next year and get a position player and Storen back.

Do Clippard for Span, not Storen...
