Passan on Upton and the Nationals:

Quote
# A number of MLB officials tell Passan that they consider the Nationals the favorites for B.J. Upton. However, a Rays official says there’s no favorite at this point (click here for the latest on Upton).
# Nationals GM Mike Rizzo has told teams that pitching prospect Brad Peacock is not available.
# Nationals executives and scouts have told others that Ian Desmond is available (despite reports that that Washington will hold onto its shortstop).

I love the Peacock point. The Desmond point I am really open too, as long as the trade is for something we need.

Gotta be holding out. Seriously, Peacock can't be that highly valued ... can he?

Peacock shouldn't be untouchable if he can help bring back a lot in return.

Remember some of the prospects that weren't available when the Nats were trying to trade Soriano. The nats were rumored to be interested in Garza, Maybin, and Adam Jones. All were said to be untouchable and all ended up traded eventually.

I consider ignoring LaRussa a positive trait.

agreed, we can't justify holding onto Desmond if moving him helps us, given Lombo is arguably ready to step up.

Apparently a Rasmus to the Bluejays deal in a three team trade is agreed to, waiting for the commish to approve since money is involved.

According to Rosentha's tweet:
Money appears only holdup in 3-team deal that would send EJax to #Cardinals, Rasmus to #BlueJays. MORE #WhiteSox #tradedeadline #MLB

Seriously?

Yes. Apperently Kasten put a stop to that and advised the board of directors to resign Dunn, but Rizzo didn't want to keep Dunn and it ended up a big clusterfreak.

Jackson has been told that he's being traded to the bluejays.

Jackson and Teahan to the Blue Jays for Jason Frasor.

I can't believe the Nats didn't have something similar to offer the White Sox if they wanted Jackson so bad.

i'm assuming desmond is in any deal so lombardozzi comes up to play 2B and espinosa back to SS.

My point is, the CF market is sparse right now and I don't view many of them as any major improvement over Bernie so if we can get a SS who can lead off we can move Bernie to the #8 (or #9) spot and trade Desmond.  We don't necessarily HAVE to have both a SS and a CF (although both would be nice) as long as we get a leadoff hitter.

This is an insane trade at the moment - a crap player and a decent starter for a good reliever and a great prospect?
