This is an insane trade at the moment - a crap player and a decent starter for a good reliever and a great prospect?
What do the Cards have that we might be able to acquire with Clippard and Desmond?
Why the heck do the Cards trade for someone they can just sign in the offseason?
olney thinks the jays have acquired Rasmus for ejax, rzepczinski & dotel. do they have any bullpen left?
My point is, the CF market is sparse right now and I don't view many of them as any major improvement over Bernie so if we can get a SS who can lead off we can move Bernie to the #8 (or #9) spot and trade Desmond. We don't necessarily HAVE to have both a SS and a CF (although both would be nice) as long as we get a leadoff hitter.
Still - they couldn't find another way to add a starting pitcher? Or trade Rasmus for a starter with more than 2 months left on his contract?Seems pretty short sighted to me.
we really couldn't find a way to top the Jays offer?
well it's down to b.j. upton, peter bourjous, denard span and michael bourn.
Watch us end up with no one other than Gomes.
Of those, I'd take Span.
My order would be Span, Bourjas, BJ, Bourn.
No. Edwin Jackson is better than Marquis and the Cards are trying to win the Central. I am sure the Nats could have topped the offer the Blue Jays made, but why trade too much for Rasmus when BJ Upton is comparable and will cost far less.
I'd flip Bourn and Upton, but other than that, yep. In fact, I'd probably just leave Upton on the table.
