Jon morosi says "#STLCards asked about Eric Thames, as a way to make sure they got an outfielder back in Rasmus deal. Not clear if #BlueJays will move him."

What do the Cards have that we might be able to acquire with Clippard and Desmond?

This is an insane trade at the moment - a crap player and a decent starter for a good reliever and a great prospect?

Good god.  Anthopoulous might be worse than Ricciardi.

Edwin Jackson, once the Jays flip him for Rasmus.

Why the heck do the Cards trade for someone they can just sign in the offseason?

They are trying to win the NL Central before then.

My point is, the CF market is sparse right now and I don't view many of them as any major improvement over Bernie so if we can get a SS who can lead off we can move Bernie to the #8 (or #9) spot and trade Desmond.  We don't necessarily HAVE to have both a SS and a CF (although both would be nice) as long as we get a leadoff hitter.

that's where we agree to disagree.

Still - they couldn't find another way to add a starting pitcher?  Or trade Rasmus for a starter with more than 2 months left on his contract?

Seems pretty short sighted to me.

Rasmus was their Yunel Escobar. Honestly AA reminds me a little bit of Bowden with his willingness to take on reported clubhouse issues. Those two are more talented than anyone Bowden brought in, but AA is an overrated GM.

Fire AA.

But he did manage to dump Vernon Wells.  That was a minor miracle.

No. Edwin Jackson is better than Marquis and the Cards are trying to win the Central. I am sure the Nats could have topped the offer the Blue Jays made, but why trade too much for Rasmus when BJ Upton is comparable and will cost far less.

My order would be Span, Bourjas, BJ, Bourn.

I'd flip Bourn and Upton, but other than that, yep.  In fact, I'd probably just leave Upton on the table.

I will be surprised if Upton costs less.  Jackson is a decent pitcher but he'll be a free agent in a couple of months.

The Cards have done nothing but drive Rasmus' value down recently.  I get that Rasmus is a pain in the rear but they should have done better.

I think Bourn's issues are worse than Upton's because Bourn does his cancer routine on the field.
