So, basically, we tried really hard, but we couldn't get the job done.

BUY MORE TICKETS!

Okay okay. Grabbing any of those CF'ers would make me excited. Denard Span would be pretty damn awesome because of his contract, like Linty said. I, too, wouldn't give up Desmond and Clip for Span though.

It would be even cooler if we're talking about Bourn AND Pence 8)

I actually think he will end up surprising folks with how close he returns to form.

do you mean that in a good way or bad way? :)

You'd have to give up a lot for those two. And what do you propose they do with Morse, Werth and Laroche for 2012 under that scenario?

From the Boston Globe's national writer:

I have no idea what that means.

Won't go overboard with players

I don't freaking care.

Pence - Bourn - Werth

Zimmerman - Espinosa - Lombodozzi - Morse (LaRoche benched)

Ramos/Norris

:D

Trade Deadline brings me back to fantasy baseball drafts. Its just all fun and games to think about crap like that until your GM makes a dumbass trade.

The tweet was saying that the Twins want MORE than a Coffey or Hrod. At least thats how I was reading it.

Nationals: Livan Hernandez and Jason Marquis are starters who could go. There's been word they are shopping hard-throwing reliever Tyler Clippard. Veteran bullpen man Paul Coffey could also bring back a prospect. They want a centerfielder, as they don't seem to have the faith in Roger Bernadina that others do, and they like Upton. The Nats are also reportedly taking inquiries on shortstop Ian Desmond who's having a disappointing season but might be able to help the Brewers or others.

The Cardinals have been aggressive in their search for bullpen help and have spoken with the Nationals about their available relievers, major-league sources told FOXSports.com.

Washington has made Todd Coffey available on the trade market. Coffey, who will be a free agent after this season, is 3-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 42 appearances.

Coffey had an ERA under 2.50 near the end of June but has struggled lately, with an 8.10 ERA and .856 OPS over his last 10 outings.

The Nationals would like to keep setup man Tyler Clippard, but it’s believed that he is available in the right deal.

Paul Coffey is my favorite Nat.

I wonder what would happen for Desmond bobblehead night if Desmond was traded.

Span is under control through 2015.

That'd be an awesome get for the Nats.

Yeah, I'm guessing he's the #1 target right now. I'm hoping we get him, but what's up with the low SB numbers this year?

Unsung hero of those Oilers teams.  Never got the pub that Messier and Gretzky got.  :D

Hopefully Paul can snatch us a nice return. Guy's a beast, a lot of teams need a guy like him.

•Interest in Astros center fielder Michael Bourn is still not high, tweets Stephen Goff of Examiner.com.  He says the Braves are not a good fit and the Nationals are highly unlikely.

i wonder why?
