LOL, pretty sure he's the same man who traded Matt Capps for Wilson Ramos.

Seriously, the Maya signing doesn't give you the slightest bit of pause about Rizzo's judgement?  ...or, more importantly, the lack of acknowledgment of being wrong?

Ridiculous, it simply illustrates AGAIN that Rizzo has done some good things, Capps for Ramos and some bad things, signing Maya. It's not a black and white situation.

The Extremeskins mentality around here is getting really tiresome

he's done somethings that you would expect any gm to do- deal a closer when you have a losing team. I'll give him credit for that, he's made some mistakes any gm could make (maya being one- really no one knew what they were getting with him), but on the whole, I don't see many great moves

The Yunesky Maya signing is more bad than the Wilson Ramos trade is good.  It doesn't make him even.  He's still on the negative side.

And yes, this is the "evidence" people will keep falling back on.

Maya is a minor 2 million dollar flop. Who cares?

Why is that more bad? What does that even mean? Maya has cost nothing but money. He's not in the majors, there's no cap, how is it more bad than a starting catcher on an MLB team?

Ridiculous

No good.  If you can't do due diligence then don't make the signing!

The Capps for Ramos trade was a great trade, no matter how much you want to minimize it. A closer. who had been non-tendered, then signed with no long term future, on a short term deal, for a high end prospect/ starting catcher is a great trade.

Other things he's done are not so great. As it is, he's only only had 1 trade deadline and 1 off season so far. He's done some good things and some not so good things. He gets an incomplete from me at this point.

Actually, he's a $6 million flop...and he signed Werth to a backloaded 7-year, $126 million contract...and Matt Stairs is still on the major league roster...and Garrett Mock is still on the 40-man roster...

He was a defector from Cuba, signing a player like that always involves a risk.  It's not like he was a pitcher at UVA and it's not like the Nats were the only team interested in him. His pitching didn't translate to MLB, it happens, so what.

 he should have infiltrated Cuba with a radar gun and a flip cam in the hopes he'd get a look at a guy before they defected?  It was a gamble that didn't pay off, but every amateur and international signing is a gamble

Are you serious? Do you honestly expect me to believe that Werth is anywhere near Igawa's level of suck?

So, we're agreed that he signed him without actually being able to scout him, something that he claims was done?  He's lying to us, in other words?

Seriously

Quick someone save us with a baseless rumor deadline trade tweet

BTW, speaking of busts, Bryce Harper and the Senators simply CRUSHED Zach Britton. Scored 8 runs on him in the 5th, including 3 homeruns. Love it

Not yet.  Give it time.  Igawa is a special level of suck though.

No, not at all, not even a little bit. He's an international signing, sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don't. Happens ALL the time all over MLB. It certainly shouldn't be used as the keystone to indict a person's overall competency.

Every GM misses now and then. Maya had looked good in the WBC and going on that, since Maya wasn't pitching anywhere after his defection, Rizzo rolled the dice. It's a $6-8Million gaffe, we'll recover from it.

I seem to recall quite a few teams were after Maya.
