Nats aren't going after Fielder:

http://ballparkbanter.mlblogs.com/2011/08/25/nationals-wont-pursue-prince-fielder/

I don't think Boras has decided who we are going after yet.

Yeah, we'll just have 7 starters then.

Ok, y'all are picky. I was basing this off the assumption we would have a FIVE-MAN rotation. I guess a seven-man rotation isn't totally impossible, but highly unlikely.

7-man rotation
1. Stras
2. Zimm
3. Lannan
4. Peacock
5. CMW
6. Millone
7. Detwiler

If he visits Dupont Circle, maybe MDS will hook him up

SS - Either try to get Reyes or give the job to Lombardozzi. I like that Lombardozzi is a leadoff hitter.

CF - Has to come from a trade.

SP - Sabathia or Wilson would be awesome... or Yu Darvish

RP - A lot to choose from. Probably only need to get one.

I kind of want us to bring Livan back to be a long reliever/spot starter/pinch hitter

That's funny, but way too close to reality.

Sabathia is declining his option?

Any shot he chooses the Nats?

I was watching the Phils/Braves game on ESPN and they reported that Pujols turned down a 9 year deal.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/09/pujols-mozeliak-talk-contract.html

That says 9 years at 210 million

Just going off the Trade Rumors' post. Was more of a question than a statement. Are there any links addressing the Nats plans for the offseason?

I think you're mistaken. Sabathia is opting out of his deal. Probably so he can re-sign with them for way more money.

9/210? I would offer 8/210... (if I had the keys to the Lerners' safe deposit boxes)

I was talking to a buddy (Braves fan) about this today.  He says the Nats should go after Reyes and I'd love to have him at the top of the order but I don't trust him to stay healthy.  Kinda fear they'd throw a Werthish contract at him, though.  Could probably swallow a 3 or 4 year deal.

It's all about the Benjamins.  He's already taken the top dollar deal once when he said he wanted to stay on the west coast, what's to say he wouldn't do it again.   If they can somehow woo CC here and have him and Stras at the top of the rotation for the next few years, that'd be, just...  I think he goes back to the West Coast if he doesn't end up back in New York.

I don't see it happening but Reyes and CC would be a heckuva offseason.

Also, I think I'd stay out of the Pujols derby.

At the beginning of the year I was dreaming big and now I've sort of stepped into reality but I still like imagining of what our lineup would be with a Fielder/Pujols in it and a Morse in LF.

Desmond/Lombardozzi/CF/SS traded
Werth
Zimmerman
Pujols/Fielder
Morse
Espinosa
Ankiel/Gomes/Nix/unknown RF/Lombo/Des
Ramos
Pitcher

I really doubt the Nats would do that. To be really honest the only move I see the Nats making this offseason is improving the bench after the Matt Stairs experiment went to the toilet. And then maybe make a deal/signing for a CF. Rizzo showed that getting a CF is number 1, and I really dont see the Nats doing anything other than that. Fielder/Pujols is a pipe dream even I wont dream in my happiest days  :icon_frown: Reyes... meh. They are really high on Ian it seems like it and will probably let him get one last shot before they just let give up on him and move onto the next kid.

I agree. I expect our name to be thrown out there in regards to Fielder, Reyes, Pujols, and Wilson by the media, but we won't make a serious run at any of them. I think this team just does that to keep the fans happy and to try to fool us into thinking that they are actually improving the team.

We've been over this before - the Lerners aren't investing their own money into this team and with the dismal attendance I wouldn't be shocked if we tried to resign Pete Orr this offseason.  Reyes, Pujols, Sabathia or any other top flight free agents aren't coming here next year.  We *might* oversign some 30+ former Rizzo Hot Beef Injection® late '90s scout pr0n but given the lack of brand, dismal attendance, and zero team sponsorship get ready for more of the same.

In my dream scenario, we trade a middle infielder plus some pitching prospects for Adam Jones.  Then sign the best pitcher who will sign here for a couple of years - Edwin Jackson?  Maybe Bedard?  I'd also bring CMW back as well as Livo as the long reliever.

CC and Wilson aren't coming here.  Fielder and Reyes I don't want when you factor in what they'll cost and their potential downsides.  Pujols is staying in STL.

If Jones can't be had, maybe Coco Crisp as a plan B.  Nate McLouth or Cody Ross/Rick Ankiel as a plan C.  There doesn't appear to be a ton of CF's available either in trades or as FA.
