At what price point would CJ Wilson or Edwin Jackson make sense to you? Same for Coco Crisp?
I dont mind Crisp on a 1 or 2 year deal.
Im not sure about Wilson or Jackson. Personally, the big issue is guys on the cusp of the bigs in the next year. I dont want to pay CJ Wilson $17mill or so through his mid 30's. $17mill for 2 years, ok, sure. He won't sign that though. I dont know what kind of deal Jackson will sign, but even signing him for 5 years is pushing it for me. We have some high end talent ready to come up in a year or two, and signing these guys long term could hinder their future here. I know you can't pencil in every prospect, but I think you still have to give them a shot. I dont think Wilson or Jackson is going to be good enough 3 years from now to justify their contract to us. With 3 locks in the rotation, Im ok bringing back Wang to battle with Detwiler, Milone and Peacock for next year. The following year, I think Solis, Purke, and Meyer will be knocking on the door. With all that talent relatively close, I think its a mistake signing guys to huge money deals into their mid/late 30's(Wilson) or overpaying for an inconsistent guy like Jackson. I dont think either is going to make us more of a contender next year, so Im good getting some guys some experience next year to see what we have. Is Detwiler a long term option? Milone? Is Peacock a reliver or starter? If Wang has a good year, he's a trade candidate at the deadline.
