At what price point would CJ Wilson or Edwin Jackson make sense to you?  Same for Coco Crisp?

I dont mind Crisp on a 1 or 2 year deal.

Im not sure about Wilson or Jackson. Personally, the big issue is guys on the cusp of the bigs in the next year. I dont want to pay CJ Wilson $17mill or so through his mid 30's. $17mill for 2 years, ok, sure. He won't sign that though. I dont know what kind of deal Jackson will sign, but even signing him for 5 years is pushing it for me. We have some high end talent ready to come up in a year or two, and signing these guys long term could hinder their future here. I know you can't pencil in every prospect, but I think you still have to give them a shot. I dont think Wilson or Jackson is going to be good enough 3 years from now to justify their contract to us. With 3 locks in the rotation, Im ok bringing back Wang to battle with Detwiler, Milone and Peacock for next year. The following year, I think Solis, Purke, and Meyer will be knocking on the door. With all that talent relatively close, I think its a mistake signing guys to huge money deals into their mid/late 30's(Wilson) or overpaying for an inconsistent guy like Jackson. I dont think either is going to make us more of a contender next year, so Im good getting some guys some experience next year to see what we have. Is Detwiler a long term option? Milone? Is Peacock a reliver or starter? If Wang has a good year, he's a trade candidate at the deadline.

Next year we have Strasbourg Zimmermann and Lannan as almost definates. That's not a bad place to start. I'd like to think one of Detwiler, Milone and Peacock could be number four (I'd include Wang, but I think he's playing well enough that some team will give him a multiple year deal and I'd rather that not be the Nats). Throw in Livan's or another non-top tier veteran and I think you have a decent rotation.

That was my character in that game. Sling the opponent into the ropes and greet him on the way back with a flying forearm.  :lmao:

If we lose Wang I prefer we get another veteran SP. I think Stras, JZimm, Lannan, Det, Livo, Peacock, and Millone is not enough for a team that might have a chance to compete for a wild card. I just don't think Livo has anything left and Peacock and Millone are unknowns. And Det...who knows at this point.

What is Rendon's ETA September call up in 2013 if things go well, maybe earlier- to me, realistically, he and Harper are the relief- they aren't paying prince Pinole or Reyes and trading for a guy like Upton won't transform the offense
I jus don't see where Rendon is going to fit in. We are set at 3B, 1B (LaRoche or Morse), MI (Espi, Lombo, Desi, and I'm not sure Rendon can even play that). He might be what we need to trade to get that leadoff CF!

We are set at 3B

Didn't CatsEye say there were some theories why Rendon was taken, other than being the BPA?

Rendon can't be traded until next August 15th anyway. But he's not being traded.

I thought the same about Alex White and Drew Pomeranz.

Maybe an Ackley-esque time frame is the reasonable best case.  A full season in the minors, AFL, then a half season before call up.  They seem similar, except Ackley switched positions to a place of obvious need for the Mariners.  I think Rendon maybe goes half a year at 3d, then they switch him to where they think he'll play.  After that, he gets half of 2012, the AFL, and the first half of 2013 to adjust before call up.  Maybe by mid 2012 / 2013, we'll know more about the middle infield, first, and whether RZ is here long term.

So where would he play? The only place is I see for him is if RZ is not going to stay. (The horrors.)

And what is BPA?

BPA = Best Player Available. Might make a transition to 2nd  What's his arm like? Perhaps the outfield? Who knows, but his bat should find a place in our lineup somewhere.

Is Rendon a MI possibility?

we'll be set at 3b when Zimmerman resigns, Laroche is gone after next year and we have morse. I think Rendon's upside dwarfs Morse's - if its 2013 and Rendon is mashing in AAA, my guess is that Morse gets moved

There's been talk about 2d.  That might even be the most likely spot.  Also there has been talk about 3d (if RZ goes; I don't see him moving to 1st), 1st (if RZ stays), and LF.  A lot of this depends on who is the weakest link:  the post-RZ vacancy at 3d, a failure at the non-Espinosa MI position, Morse being a mirage, Marrero not being a major leaguer, Harper and Werth playing somewhere other than LF.

You could see Morse getting arbitration twice more, then Rendon as his backfill.  LaRoche is gone after next year if he is not traded before that, so it should not block Rendon if he is on the Ackley schedule.

I'd rather have Rendon move to 2nd, move Desmond to the bench after this year, have Lombardozzi play 2nd until Rendon is ready.

Totally agree if the transition goes well, but I don't want to keep him in the minors longer than necessary if he's not doing well at 2b

I fail to see why Ackley is a best case.

Everyone said Ackley's bat was ready, but he spent more time in the minors because he was learning second base.

Ackley was an OF/1B that was learning second base.

Rendon has been an infielder his entire life. He was a high school SS, and even played a game at 2B at Rice, along with a ton of experience at 3rd.

Im not saying a switch to second base will be easy, but it's a much easier transition for Rendon than it was for Ackley. So he could be ready before Ackley was. I dont think Ackley's timeframe is a best case scenario.
