Can we get Matt Kemp? I believe he's a free agent this year. Dodger won;t likely let him get away but with their internal probelems you never know. He'd be a nice addition in CF at Nats Park!
He isn't a free agent till 2013

The guy can rake but I believe his UZR is poo poo. He's probably best suited for a corner OF spot.

Why does it always have to be an either/or with this organization?

Why can't they commit money to keep their best player why also adding a significant piece through FA?

you're talking about a team with an opening day payroll lowers than the Okland As and Houston Astros

I defend our FO quite often but even I can't really defend that stat.

Hopefully (fingers and toes crossed) both Zimms and Morse are going to get hefty new contracts soon that will bump us up in payroll.

Even if they do get hefty contracts, that'll just encourage the FO/Lerners not to spend money on other talent on the open market.

I hope not. Guess we'll see soon enough.

My apologies, I thought that Ramos was Pudge with all of GIDP and lack of power.

I really am afraid they are going to do something stupid and/or cheap like trade Morse for farm scraps.

That wouldn't really shock me, especially if it resulted in "financial relief" and draft picks.  It would, however, cause me to follow another team.

I could see him moving if they don't like his defense in left and are unwilling to eat the LaRoche contract- hopefully not for scraps though

Draft picks and "financial reliefs" are scraps.  That's probably what will happen.

You just defended it. We have a young team. When the talent comes into its own they will get paid and payroll will go up. If they don't get paid, and our talent leaves like a Pittsburgh or something, then we have a problem.

I guess when I say scraps, I'm just showing my own cynicism about trading semi-proven talent for prospects.  We aren't going to get any can't-miss top-grade prospects for a guy like Morse.  Morse has made me a believer, but it's still entirely possible that he flops next year, or at least comes way down.  Other GMs obviously know this and aren't going to offer all that much for him.

Rizzo already has a hard-on for the beefcake draft picks he's going to yield. :stir:

It's been a long day so excuse me if I'm missing something obvious but how would Morse translate into draft picks if we traded him?

I would hope we'd at least get a major leaguer for him- More for prospects would infuriate me
