I'm impressed by the walk rate, most players from the DR don't learn to walk nearly that much.

Seems Martinez and Wander Ramos are the most polished hitters on the GCL roster. Hopefully they show next year in Auburn/Hagerstown.

They're both repeating that level, so they'll probably have to prove themselves at a higher level in order to get on the radar.

Kevin Keyes with a HR tonight in Hagerstown, his 11th.

He is now batting .271/.352/.500 in 236 ABs.

22 years old in A ball. What to make of him?

He should probably be in Potomac, at least based on his age.

His numbers are much better in the second half. .299/384/.521 with 7 HR with 35 rbi in 47 games.

Its only his first full season in the minors, so him at Hagerstown isn't that big of a deal.

So you are saying he's in mid-season form?

RE: Keyes.  I've seen him twice now and both times have come away very impressed with his offensive game.  He has very good power and a patient approach at the plate.  His swing had a few minor holes in it, but he should produce at the next level without problem.  While he is playing the corner OF positions right now and could possibly play well enough to stick there for awhile, he looks more like a future 1B to me.  His injury at the beginning of the season and the presence of Hood/Ramirez at Potomac have slowed his movement this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if he finished next season at AA.  IMO, Keyes has the potential to be a very good sleeper prospect in this system.  If he does not make it to the Nats as a contributor, I could see him becoming a decent trade chip down the road.

Speaking of Keyes, he's 2/2 with a Triple, HR, and 4 RBIs through 4 innings tonight.

Bernadina, Antonelli, and Bynum each have a HR tonight off of ex-Nat Steven Shell.

Lombardozzi is 1/2 with a Double, run, and walk.

Wow Steve Shell.  I remember Bowden pimping him at some point.

Keyes seems to have figured out the level he's currently at.

I like Antonelli's bat more than Lombardozzi, at least going by the numbers.

Every time I type the names Antonelli and Lombardozzi, I want instead to type Mario and Luigi and I think of the Super Mario Brothers kids show during the late '80's.

Hey, I always thought Shell could've been a good reliever. For some reason I was a big fan of his. Then out of nowhere, he was released.

I like Antonelli's bat more than Lombardozzi, at least going by the numbers.

Antonelli in 2011, .301/.384/.451  5/9sb
Lombardozzi in 2011, .314/.363/.447, 24/32sb

I left out runs and rbi, even though Lombardozzi has more than double of each than Antonelli, because Antonelli has 200 less at bats.

But the numbers are very similar, except for stolen bases, where Lombo blows him out. And Lombo is 3 1/2 years younger.

Man, why can't we give both of them a chance RIGHT NOW exactly? I mean get rid of the Bix and someone else and start Antonelli and Lombardozzi a few games. Espinosa has been struggling big time offensively lately, as well as a few errors, and Desmond has been Desmond. It would be nice to get some talented, fresh blood in there.

Antonelli in 2011, .301/.384/.451  5/9sb
Lombardozzi in 2011, .314/.363/.447, 24/32sb

But in AAA, it is .299 / .386 / .454 for Antonelli, and for Lombo its .320 / .359  / .438.  Lombo's SB advantage disappears, with 8 SB, 5 CS. Antonell shouldn't be running, either (5 SB / 4 CS).

Lombo is more of a future play due to age, but Antonelli is better at a higher level now.  Really, this should not be difficult.  Get Antonelli up quickly, let Lombo get back to his 10% walk rate in AAA or call him up if Antonelli can't hack it.

We all know that's not going to happen though.

Regardless of what Antonelli does, Lombardozzi is going to get the shot over him, deserving or not.
